NOTE-TAKING SYSTEM
As a student nurse, I believe that nurses must be active listeners and active on what
professors and doctors order; I believe that there are many things to be noted because of the
difficult terminologies; I believe that there are various ways that nurses can do or even normal
people to-do need to have notes by their sides; one of these is the sentence method; sentence
method is one of the difficult ways to jot down notes for me, the goal of this method is to write
down your ideas as rapidly as possible. Every new thought is typed on a new line, keeping the
format to a bare minimum. yet as a student, I generally use this strategy, this is how I can recall
things that professors said, even though it takes time to write. and I believe it has strength and
weaknesses to consider.
First Strength of Sentence method for me is that it is “free writing” meaning you can
write everything what the speaker said I believe that sentence method is difficult but in this I
way I can write everything what professor said, I am aware that this strategy is not suitable
for all students. Because I tend to write everything and anything on paper, I may claim that
sentence is free writing. Second is that it is “very easy to learn and understand” it’s just like an
instant flashcard for reviewer. Third one is “usable during live lectures.”
Usually note-taking takes no weaknesses because we are free to write what come to our
mind as well on what the speaker told. But for me sentence method has its own weakness, one
of this is that sentence method is “lack of space relationship awareness between notes” although
you need to have a big note for you to write everything. Second is that “the main concepts are
difficult to distinguish from small details” because you are writing everything. And lastly it requires
a “very quick handwriting skills” for you to follow all what the speaker said.
I can say that sentence method is a difficult way of note taking strategies since it need a
time and effort for you to finish and analyze all things you have written.
