The Significance of Poultry Feathers

Chicken feathers are considered poultry industry waste and can contribute to a solid waste
problem in the environment. Every bird is believed to have up to 125 grams of feather. Thus,
the global production of feather waste is over 3000 tons according to the author. The disposal
of this mass garbage is a global environmental issue that pollutes land and groundwater
sources. The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of reusing a feather due to its low
cost.
Composting is one of the more cost-effective and environmentally beneficial techniques to
recycle the poultry industry's feather waste. Susequemtly, crushing feather waste for use as an
organic nutrient fertilizer in Deep Water Culture (DWC) is required for the establishment of
brassica plant roots.

2.2. The Significance of Brassica Rapa (Pechay) Gardening in Urban Areas

Pechay is a prominent Brassiceae vegetable in the Philippines. It is one of the most used
vegetables in Filipino cuisine, and it may be found in a variety of Filipino stews. Because pechay
leaves are delicate, young, and fully formed, they are the most used part of the plant. Popular
petioles include those with succulent petioles. By means of petioles, it is the stalk that joins a
leaf to a stem, a leaf stalk.
Urban agriculture or urban farming is the practice of growing plants and raising animals for
food production within a city or town. It also requires processing the produce and then
distributing it across the city, allowing you to grow food in places where it was previously
difficult or impossible to do so.
2.3. The Benefits and Drawbacks of Organic Nutrients in Deep Water Culture (DWC)
As I recall DWC system is a hydroponic system in which nutrient-rich water is continually fed to
the plant's roots, keeping the roots submerged in water and oxygen at all times. The benefit of
a DWC system is that it is highly oxygenated, uses less fertilizer, and requires less care and
monitoring because it is based on organic agricultural principles that do not require synthetic
fertilizers or pesticides. As a result, organic DWC nutrition solutions are made from organic
plant and animal waste; pulverized feathers are one of them.
The disadvantage is that the production of organic fertilizer from poultry feather wastes,
excluding the composting process of chicken feathers generated in large quantities by the
poultry industry, is hazardous to the natural environment due to their poor digestibility and
potential as a source of microbiological pathogens. Feather management, which uses feather
waste as a nutritional solution for the plant, helps researchers pinpoint these circumstances.
2.4. The Measurement Growth of Brassica
To examine the development of leaves and roots in Brassica, researchers used a hydroponic
DWC system with crushed feather nutrients. As the plant tools and media used were
characterized by, this data analysis included measurements of the number of leaves, leaf width,
leaf length, and root length with a specific material.
The study discovered that crushed poultry feather treatment had a significant impact on the
number of leaves, leaf width, leaf length, and root length of the meter, altering the Brassica's
growth.
