Cultural Diversity is an important competency for all health care professionals to
develop, regardless of their expertise and years of experiences.

Clients or patients in the health care industry come from different ethnic groups with
varying cultures and practices nurses should be able to meet the needs of these clients and their
family members, hence it is essential to have a diverse workforce that would enable to meets the
needs of patients. I learned from the topic discussed that there is still so much more to learn, for
example the intersex and transgender people are unheard in some country or not acceptable in
society like in Asian countries where they are unequally treated.

Diversity really helps us to expand our view to look at problems from different angles
and consider multiple ways to resolve issues, I have also learned that diversity creates self-
awareness, sharpening our existing knowledge allowing us to compare our experience with those
of others, enabling us to learn from the experiences of others and making us more capable of
making and applying decision in our workplaces and personal lives.

On the other hand I think as individuals nurses and other health care practitioner or
providers we need to learn to ask questions sensitively which that is my opinion because this is
to show respect for different cultural beliefs most important we must listen to our patients
carefully because the main source of problem on my point view is the lack of understanding and
tolerance, very often neither the nurse nor the patient understands the other’s perspective
therefore it test of our cultural diversity or our ability to care for patients.

I also believe language set barriers as what discussed in the lecture, such as for example
keeping patients from accurately describing their symptoms and provides from explaining
diagnosis. Cultural competence really aims to breakdown barriers that get in the way of patient’s
receiving the care they need it also ensure to improved understanding between patients and their
providers.

In addition, cultural competence is not an isolated aspect of medical care, but an

important component of overall excellence in health care delivery. Issues in health care quality
and satisfaction are particular concern for people with sample chronic conditions who frequently
come into contact with a health care system.
When it comes with the discussion given by our own colleagues the lectures were
conducted well and the class discussion were highly interactive, and insights being shared. The
lectures slides were organized and clearly presented. I enjoy the lectures. Our professor had a
good speaking and teaching style which keeps me interested lots of examples were thrown which
make it easier to understand, which we had a good interaction.

In a nutshell, creating diversity in health care isn’t just important it is vital language,
culture and ethnicity can easily create barriers these should require dedications to increase
cultural awareness and inclusion also co workers who are willing to take the time to learn about
each other it means they are being willing to identify and address personal biases and it means
boldly opening ourselves to discomfort for the greater good of our patients or clients and their
family.
