What motivated you to conduct or choose the study?

- We the researcher was motivated to choose this study because these two
social media video platforms help us to not just have fun while surfing on
the internet but learning at the same time. Also it benefits us, students, as
we don’t have the distraction of trying to capture every word in our notes.
Instead, we have unlimited access to a video version of the most important
points. Also it has been revealed that most students understand complex
concepts more once they’ve seen an animated video about it
(Fabiani,2021)

What is the background of your study?

How is your study relevant to theory or concept relevant to your


study?
Our research theoretical and conceptual framework was based on the
study of  Bandura’s Social Learning Theory of 2014 stating that for better or
worse, people observe, imitate, and model the behavior of others. It was
true in Bandura's day, and it was truer in the age of social media.In relation
to our study this is also what we want to investigate, that technology
eventually provided  a platform to digitalize the student experiences.
Though they are not the first of their kind, Youtube and Tiktok are now
synonymous with daily social interaction.And therefore we use this
particular theory to determine how this two apps integrated with short and
long videos could help provide the accessibility to be exposed to
knowledgeable content as well as reduce the inconvenience for learners
despite the distance and the settings to help learners to improve their
communication skills.

How did you formulate your sop?


-There is no specific template for the formulation of sop but there are
advises, tips and guides that we use in order for us to create good and
strong research question.This question defend on the type of research that
we were conducting and that is comparative descriptive research. It is
answerable by collecting quantitative data and by reading scholarly
sources.

What is the importance of your study?


- It is important to conduct this study for it will capture the attention of Gen
Z or Millenials to be aware of what they are using and to compare these
two apps also as it is now in the top most used social media platform the
Youtube as rank 2 followed by Tiktok as top 6 According to Statistas data
of 2022. That's why we've decided to do research about it ,as it has more
users and that includes us, the tertiary students.

What is the limitation of your study?


The study did not include Gen Z with ages from 6 to 16 years old.

What method and technique did you use?


The method used in our studies is quantitative method. As quantitative is
quantifiable, measurable, uses numeric values and statistical analaysis.
Number of respondents are usually larger compared to qualitative and it
utilizes hypothesis for comparing variables. Because of this definition we
find it the most appropriate to used for our study comparative analysis.

Who are your respondents?


The target respondents of the researcher are the tertiary students in
different levels and different schools.

Discuss the population and sample of your study?


The targeted population for this study was the Tertiary Students in different
State University and colleges within the National Capital Region (NCR).
Also, the targeted number of respondents will be one hundred fifty tertiary
students who have been given an equal opportunity to be included in the
data gathering on the sample population because the researcher used
simple random sampling to ask randomly on a larger population.

How did you choose the sample of your study?


The respondents must be enrolled college students. Also they must be
using the video sharing platforms specifically TikTok and YouTube.
What instrument do you use?
- The researchers that we will use to conduct this study are through a
survey questionnaire through an online platform and that is the Google
form.

How do you plan to gather the data?


-The researchers will conduct a survey questionnaire through an online
platform; the platform that the researcher will use is the Google form. It was
short to ensure that students won’t get bored answering it and it was
divided into three parts. The first part asks for general demographic
information, where the respondents will type their name (optional), college
level, university name and course.The second one with 2 questions: “Have
you ever heard of the following video-sharing websites?” that could be
answered by Yes or No , and “How often do you use the following?” that
could be answered from Never to Everyday. A third one with more specific
questions about TikTok and Youtube (respondents were asked to visit
Youtube and Tiktok if they didn’t know about it).Which one corresponds the
best in terms of influencing their communication skills

The outcomes of this study support innovative


Educational tools we are developing through the help of
Youtube and Tiktok. Students will know to improve
their intellectual language in terms of communication
using the social media platforms that these are not only
for entertainment but can also aid for their academic
success. The outcomes of the study will define the
importance of the distinction and effects between
Youtube and TikTok on the communication skill of
tertiary students.

POST EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE.
ACCORDING TO TOQUERO C. AND TALIDONG K. (2020) SOCIAL
MEDIA, PARTICULARLY FOR STUDENTS, AIDS IN ACADEMIC
SUCCESS. HOWEVER, WE SHOULDN'T UNDERESTIMATE THE
VALUE OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR STUDYING OR VIRTUAL
SOCIALIZING BECAUSE FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION STILL
PROVIDES FOR MORE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND
HIGHER-QUALITY LEARNING.
METHOD OF RESEARCH
THIS RESEARCH IS QUANTITATIVE AND RESEARCHERS USED A
DESCRIPTIVE COMPARATIVE METHOD FOR THIS STUDY. IT
AIMS TO ANALYZE AND COMPARE THE YOUTUBE AND TIKTOK
INFLUENCE ON THE COMMUNICATION SKILLS OF THE
TERTIARY STUDENTS. THE TARGETED POPULATION FOR THIS
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS IS THE TERTIARY STUDENTS IN
DIFFERENT STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES WITHIN THE
NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION (NCR). THE TARGETED NUMBER
OF RESPONDENTS WILL BE ONE HUNDRED FIFTY TERTIARY

This research aims to compare YouTube and Tiktok in enhancing the
Communication skills of tertiary students due to the popularity of
smartphones or other devices that we used to effectively communicate with
others personally or virtually. To find out where tertiary students prefer
viewing whether YouTube or Tiktok because most students understand
complex concepts more once they view videos which influences their
understanding and learning.

The researchers used a hypothesis to assess Youtube and Tiktok on how


tertiary students influence their communication skills.

Students - this study will be beneficial for them to become more aware of
utilizing social media because it can influence their academic performance
negatively or positively. Also, this study will Help students who have
communication skills subject in their courses to add essential information
by analyzing and use the social media effectively for educational purposes. 

Professor this study will help them to improve and adjust learning strategies
or techniques to incorporate into their expertise or teaching method. 

Parents this study will enable them to be aware of the effects of Youtube
and Tik Tok on their children. Their role could be helpful for their children's
students to support and give guidance. 

Future Researchers will add valuable or useful information that can be


used in their research. That might be related to literature in our local
community. 
The students allow collaboration of information through the help of social
media to better understand their lesson. When it comes to communication
skills they can use social media to perceive another point of view or
information by watching it to better expand their knowledge and proficiency
in communicating with other people. The disadvantages of having poor
communication are they can't express themselves or better understand the
receiver's message or their own. As students, it will affect their academic
performance to create effective communication in terms of paper or
socializing with other people. Having poor communication causes a loss of
motivation to proceed and to not succeed. 

The respondents of our study are Gen Z which are the tertiary students
residing in the national capital region who are firstly enrolled as college
students. Second, they should know how to use Youtube and Tiktok.

It is convenient for the researcher and respondents to answer it in a few
minutes. Then we choose it to lessen the physical interaction with them. It
is just a qualified student that suited in our description of respondent will
answer the Googel Form through their a Google Account which we still
care for their identity to be secured therefore, researchers will include in the
first page of google form about the Data Privacy Act of 2012 to assure that
the collected data from  the respondents will be utilised with strict
confidentiality.

Privacy Act is a law that seeks to protect all forms of
information, be it private, personal, or sensitive. It is
meant to cover both natural and juridical persons
involved in the processing of personal information. 
The collected personal information will only be utilized
with strict confidentiality and will be only used for this
purpose.

What motivated you to conduct this study


Because we want to know the difference in the use of Social Media,
specifically the Youtube and Tiktok by tertiary students. Its effects and its
influence on their communication, especially in strengthening and
sharpening their communication skills. And we want this to be conducted
because Youtube and Tiktok are great help and it is essential to be part of
learning as an educational tool.

What is the background of the study

The study was aimed to compare and analyse how tertiary students utilised
YouTube and TikTok in associating it to their communication skills. We
want to address the importance of having satisfactory communication skills
through learning by watching because nowadays the social media
platforms have helped us to be knowledgeable and be literate therefore we
can use the opportunity to incorporate it as an educational tool for the
students. YouTube videos for specific problems include step-by-step
instructions, making them easily understandable. It is an engaging platform
for open conversations and discussion. Additionally, you can communicate
with students from all over the world. (Sauls. Tia 2022)

Ashley Edwards (2021) argues that digital communication is also


considered public speaking such as online discussion forums,  live
streaming and even messaging asynchronously on TED and YouTube
when the communicators develop intentional messages on topic and social
or public consequence. There is always an interaction between speakers
and the audience. Most of the students' goals in communicating are
focused on effectively delivering the message through a digital setting.

the respondents to choose from a list of options. The participants are
not exhausted by these kinds of questions because they do not take
much time to answer. Quantitative research focuses on the “What”
and “Who”.

To determine the different relationship of Youtube and Tiktok to each other
in which is more better and has a significant effectiveness to the
communication skills of tertiary students

measured by conducting tests and retests to ensure their participation are
true and to solve the problem by fixing it again through another test. To
determine that the survey are not meaningless because we instruct them
first carefully about Test and Re test 

Though they should be first qualified in our description of respondents.

through posting on Facebook that can be shared in different Facebook


pages or groups that are for academic purposes only to engage and
encourage many tertiary students to be part of our study. Though they
should first meet our qualifications in order for them to proceed in
answering our questionnaire and be one of our respondents. 

Relevant 
Yes, it is relevant to our course because communication skills are highly
essential to be able to properly carry out what we will do as an office
secretary or having an administrative role when especially talking across
different people such as employers, clients etc.  Therefore, Given that we
have YouTube and Tiktok that we used to effectively get some information
through watching because it widens our ideas about something hard to
understand when we just think about it.
According to Ashely Edwards 2021,  there is an interaction between
speakers and the viewers through watching. We chose to compare
YouTube and Tiktok due to video sharing access that is widely used by
many students rather than browsing some content that is only written. Also,
we want to know what is most effective between the two that can stand as
academically useful in enhancing their Communication skills because as a
student we should start developing our communication skills to be confident
and competent individuals on the following day we don't know. 

Uniqueness 
It is unique in the way that YouTube and Tiktok do not have enough local
related literature in terms of communication skills of tertiary students and
there is a significant difference between the YouTube-Tiktok in influencing
students in their communication skills that they should be aware of because
it may have a negative or positive impact to their academic performance.
Our group is focusing on how YouTube and Tiktok can be utilized not just
for entertainment but for academic advantages for the students who use
social media for their daily living. And the findings can be beneficial for
them and instructors to better enrich their learning styles that now we are
improving. 

And the findings can be beneficial for them to better enrich their learning
styles and be skilful in communicating effectively especially now that our
technology is developing to help students with the education easily and
accessible.

Almost everybody knows the social media most especially the students and
teenagers who are in fact 
made the most of the population on the social media 
usage (Magmanlac, et al.). Similarly,  YouTube and Tiktok affect the
communication skills of the tertiary students such as their verbal and social
skills. Both of them have the prospect of providing information that
influences the students. 

Verbal communication helps express various needs, and in asking


questions, that provide us with specific information. Verbal communication
is also used in describing things, events, occasions, people, and ideas, by
helping people to inform, persuade, and to take into consideration. In other
words, verbal expressions help us to communicate with others in explaining
our observations, thoughts, feelings, and need (Abdikarimova et al.).
However, we have social skills that tertiary students often used in
communicating with others. Social skills facilitate interaction and
communication with other people. It is the ability a person used to impart
and collaborate with each other, both verbally and non-verbally, through
signals, non-verbal communication and our personal appearance
(Magmanlac, et al.).

As social media is growing the students should use it for their betterment in
acquiring information and continuous learning as well as improvement in
socializing personally or virtually. As tertiary students, they should be
properly literate about using YouTube and Tiktok in influencing their verbal
and social skills which will be beneficial in incorporating them into their
studies. 

This research aims to compare YouTube and Tiktok in enhancing the


Communication skills of tertiary students in terms of verbal and social
skills.  To find out where tertiary students prefer viewing whether YouTube
or Tiktok is utilized as a learning tool. By knowing the effects of YouTube
and Tiktok on their verbal and social skills as well as their similarities and
differences. This research can help them to be knowledgeable about which
is the most effective social media platform for improving their
communication skills. That enables them to be well-informed in their
courses and equip them in the corporate world.

Brimble, 2010). Realizing that impact is highly dependent on a person's
views about the influence they can have on the world. Students are
more likely to use all of their resources in order to achieve a social goal
when it comes to social learning.
In conclusion, all these 3 variables are connected with each other
because through the attention that the student gets upon using
Youtube and Tiktok, it will retain in students memory and that will
serve as their motivation to strengthen their communication skills

And now lets move on to the conceptual framework it is consist of


relevant variables of the study and identify how they might relate to
each other. In our study it is consist of 3 pieces which are IPO model
which means input, process and output. IPO model is used when the
research question or the sop are factor isolating question examples of
this are the first and second question in our sop because it categorize
and describe situations.

Process indicates the methodology use to meet the objectives of the

150 respondent from different university and colleges in National
Capital Region.

First, Identify whether there is a significant difference between using
Youtube rather than Tiktok and vise versa which Identify whether there
is a significant difference between using TikTok rather than Youtube in
Terms of influencing the communication skills of tertiary student
Third determine the attention they get upon using this type of social
media, memory they retain and also the motivation in using the two
video platforms
And last conclusion for the subject matter of the study

the world who you are. With this understanding, we the
student propose this study for us to be properly literate upon
using these to develop our communication skills and as
researcher we use tiktok and youtube because this two video
platform helps to lessen the burden of developing this skill
through our own self.

to help the students clearly understand research contents.
According to Magmanlac Q., Reyes C.A, Boongaling L. , Caiga B. (2018)
People born before the internet was invented are likely to understand
the magnitude of this new style of communication. Through the
exchange of ideas and messages either by email, chat or even social
media, students are able to collaborate with each other to test their
understanding of lessons Moreover, Magmanlac Q., Reyes C.A,
Boongaling L. , Caiga B. (2018) states that social media has a great help
to student education. It is used by the students to interact with each
other and is one of the most used communication tools of today.
However, Toquero C. and Talidong K. (2020) are optimistic of the
promise of technology for better social relations but asserted that it will
not replace the traditional form of social contact. Hence there is a need
to endeavor for empirical research on virtual relationships amid the
pandemic and post pandemic to understand how technology is shaping
the social connections, social behaviors and educational performance
of the people in the virtual world.
