II. RATIONALE
Despite the problems caused by the pandemic in educational institutions, the Virtual Academic
Tutorial Session aims to provide learning opportunities for some grade 11 students. It seeks to create a
learning environment that can overcome the learning challenges posed by the pandemic, improve the
academic skills of the learners through online tutorials, and develop a sense of independence in learning
of students.
7
CITY GOVERNMENT OF SAN PABLO
The main contribution of this project will improve students' knowledge on Reading and Writing
skills. The learners will be more focused on their academics, and their parents will be aware if they are
struggling in this topic. It also aims to teach those learners who struggle with Reading and Writing skills.
The purpose of this project is to improve each student's ability to participate in tutorial sessions to
see improvements in the subject of Reading and Writing skills. Because they might use this learning in

2. Improve the academic skills of random Grade 11 students through online tutorials.
We have noticed that the random grade 11 students of San Pablo City , poor academic

their children better than any teacher, and teachers are very good at giving instructions.

This project assists participants in improving their academic writing skills. We all know
that academic writing is one of the most important things that can happen in terms of an
individual's writing and reading skills. They may be able to write an essay and read, but there are
some people who struggle to expand their minds in different types of essay writing.
After conducting the said project from planning implementation we have seen the
progress of every participant as well as the people involved in this project. For the participants,
we observed that there are students who have difficulties in both reading and writing. As for the
coordinators we have seen improvement in terms of assisting people in this type of case and
situation. This project brought many lessons to both parties and people involved.
We conclude that reading and writing skills can frequently aid in engaging reading and
writing skills, as well as comprehension. Reading and writing should be taught to students and

Due to some changes including revision of our project proposal, changes in participants
and almost the entire plan, we came up with the revised proposal which is about tutoring Grade
11 (HUMSS) students about the subject that they wanted to know about.Truly, this new project
is indeed hard especially the fact that not all in our group tackled Humanities and Social Science
during the Senior High School. Like me, I tackled the STEM Strand that’s why I am not that
familiar with the subjects in HUMSS unless it is about those core subjects that I took too in my
strand. But still, with the help of collaboration with my group mates and through doing research
on the internet, I am hoping that this project will be a success to all of us.In this week, it also
includes our search for the participants and I came up deciding to choose a friend of mine. She's
also the same person whom I had an Assessment Questionnaire with. After discussing what this
tutorial is all about including the subject which is the Reading and Writing Skills together with
the eight lessons that it includes, we had our first meeting that was held face to face in her house.
Name of the student I was going to teach is Aira Nicole Alina, 17 years old from Brgy
Santisimo Rosario. March 27, 2022, before the day of tutorials I'll prepare the materials that I
will need in Reading and writing skills subject tutorials. At exactly 9:00 am I'll started teaching
my student As a student-teacher I want to make sure first that they are familiar about the lesson I
was going to teach. At first, she's totally quiet, she can't express herself because I'm her cousin,
but after 20 minutes of my discussion, she’s became more attentive. We discussed the definition
of narration and its example, and after that I let her read the paragraph and answer the following
19

question. Before we end our tutorial session I prepared a short video about Narration. After
watching I'll provide an activity to test her understanding about the lesson I teach.
Irish Nicole De Castro, A 17-year-old Bagong Bayan student, was the student I was going
to teach. On March 28, 2022, the first class and meeting were held. It was difficult to adjust at
first, especially because I was not used to bonding with my sibling in this way, and I also did not
know what to teach first, despite having a lecture, but after many hours, I first asked him, who is
my sibling, what the Reading and Writing Skill subject is for him and if he has any idea what it
is for so that I can know where he has misunderstood what I will discuss before I begin. I
explained the meaning of narration and gave an example when he asked what all the fuss was
about with Reading and Writing Skills. With time, I understood that knowing where your
students are struggling helps you teach more effectively. My first teaching experience showed
me that not everyone has the same life experiences. We've all got a lot of unanswered questions

On March, 28,2022 we started our first session of our project implementation. Noah B.
Magsambol, a 16 year old student, is my virtual learning partner. On our first day we discussed
our subject which is Reading and Writing. The first lesson we discussed is about Narration in
creating a paragraph. After the discussion I gave him an activity. So far it was a good start.
20
CITY GOVERNMENT OF SAN PABLO
On March 28, 2022, the first tutorial was held. The subject to be discussed is about
Reading and writing. The first lesson that I discussed is about Narration in creating a paragraph.
As shown in the picture, he was my student. His name is Ivan Zingke Martinez, 19 years old. He
is a grade - 11 student HUMMS. He finds this subject to be difficult and struggles to understand
it. So as an instructor for him, I teach him the correct and clearer way to understand. I used a
PowerPoint presentation as a visual aid for teaching and delivering my discussion. At first he
struggled in understanding the topic, but I elaborate it to him and make examples to have a
clearer understanding. I was happy when I saw him smile, because I know that moment he has
been enlightened. So as for my test of evaluation. I give him an activity which has to be done in a
way of arranging the correct sequence of the paragraph. I was so delighted to see the result,
because he understood quickly how to use transitional words in identifying the correct sequence
of events. So this proves that he is developing and progressing in understanding this topic. The
picture below is the activity that he answered correctly. After we say goodbye to each other,
there will be a next meeting. So I told him to prepare for the next topic because I know that it
will be more interesting to learn and I thank him as well for the time that he spent listening to

the lesson, we began to pray first. Then we introduced ourselves to each other for her to feel
Being able to revise almost the whole project plan has never been easy. It was like our group
started from the start wherein I concluded that we will be delayed in proceeding to the actual
procedure of the project. This week, via google meet, I had an online meeting with my client
who happens to be my friend too. We continued our lesson last week and this time we tackled

can easily understand the lesson so I just gave her an activity on which I asked her to define what

activity to make this tutorial fun, this activity helps this student to boost their confidence, to
show their talent to make her sing, I'll also sing, even my voice isn't beautiful, she's make me
proud because her voice is so pleasant to hear. I started with explaining the meaning of
description, and what are the two types of descriptive writing. I also gave her an example to

On the second day of my teaching with Irish Nicole De Castro, I was started because she got
active, but when I initially began teaching, I assumed she was either uninterested or too lazy to
listen to me. Then I introduced our topic, which is Description, and I explained some key points
such as the two types of descriptions and the types of words needed to describe them.
We grabbed a snack after I finished educating him so that I could go over everything I had taught
him. Teaching is difficult, especially when the person you're teaching isn't in the mood, therefore
the class will be delayed owing to the participants' large number of modules. So, before I begin
and end, I ask him first, and I reward him for listening to me.

In our second session we started around 3 PM, March 31, 2022 and we discussed our lesson

our discussion. After a one-hour tutorial, I gave him an activity for evaluation. It’s been an
On March 31 2022, that was the day of our second session in the tutorial. It was held in a
virtual meeting again. Also, the topic that I discussed is about making a paragraph through
aid and with several activities to evaluate his understanding. He says that he doesn’t know how
to start making a paragraph with a description. We discussed it first by giving him my objectives
in discussing this lesson. As I observed him while discussing, I can see that he is willing to learn

and motivated. He listens to me carefully and his attention is being focused on me. The next
thing that I did was to test his knowledge by giving a little activity. Whereas he will describe the
given subject. As I observed him, he is learning fast to me because he can answer my questions
without hesitation. The key to this discussion is that I tell him that he must answer even though it
is wrong because I will accept it and I will correct it. So he participates in my tutorial without
being shy and he's active. He takes important notes too. This is his answered activity. All of his
answers are correct. This proves that he is learning and he understands the lesson. I will continue
to enhance his vocabulary and knowledge in making a paragraph through this. Next session, I
will make sure that he will have a progressive learning too. Below is the activity, notes and
Principe, Jacqueline
The second day of our tutorial began at 9:30 a.m. As before, we started with a prayer.
After that we had a short game to test my participant's idea about our next topic. And I saw that
she enjoyed the game. Then we began to discuss the lesson about Description. We studied the
definition of description and its two types. The objective description and subjective description. I
ask her to read the lesson in the PPT and then I explain it so that she can understand it better.
Then I gave her an Activity to test if she learned something about the topic I’ve discussed. And
she did well in the activity. After our discussion, I asked her to finish a short activity.
Our 3rd meeting happens too fast due to some conflicted schedule. It is fine to the both of
us that instead of the weekend, we adjusted it earlier. Still using a google meet, we met on
Monday after my last class. It is my client's free time too so it isn't a problem. In the beginning of
the tutorial, I asked Sam first what she'd learned in our previous meeting and just like what I'd
24
CITY GOVERNMENT OF SAN PABLO
expected, she answered very well. Our third topic in the Reading and Writing subject is all about
"Definition". My explanation on this only lasts for a few minutes because it isn't that hard to
explain. In this session, after the discussion, I asked my client to make at least 3 examples of the
"Definition".
In the morning of April 4, 2022, I start organizing the materials needed in my tutorial, at
exactly 9am, I sent link of Google meet, after that before we start to our discussion, I give an
activity to make this tutorial fun, we shared some jokes and after that I started with explaining
the meaning of definitions and I give an example to make her easily understand the lesson.
On the 3rd day of my teaching with Irish Nicole De Castro, I realized the importance of
goofing around on the third day of my teaching. I know that seems stupid, but I was terrified of
doing something. I expect to constantly plan the perfect class, correctly explain everything, and
have everything go smoothly and according to plan. Let me be the first to admit that it is
extremely rare.
In the morning of April 4, 2022, I start organizing the materials needed in my tutorial, at exactly

CITY GOVERNMENT OF SAN PABLO
On this day, April 4, 2022, our 3rd session was held. The topic to be discussed is about
applying definitions in making paragraphs. We chose this topic that is the scope of the Reading
and Writing subject because we found out that our student found a difficulty in this subject and
they want clarification in re-learning the topics. Ivan, my student to be tutored, was tasked to
listen to my discussion about the definitions. I observed that he is confused, so I gave several
examples for him until he fully understood my lesson. I tell him that he must take notes so that
he will have a reviewer when I give the activity. After the discussion, I gave him a small activity
after he understood all of my examples. As a challenge I gave this to him. I gave 10 minutes to
answer. After that, he sends me his written answer and it is as shown in the picture below.
Principe, Jacqueline
As with previous sessions, we began our third day of study with a prayer. Then we started
studying our lesson. The definition. I explained to her what the meaning of the definition is. How
a writer employs it to help the reader comprehend a written text. Here, I explained to her what
the meaning of the definition is. How a writer employs it to help the reader comprehend a written
text. I ask my participant to read two distinct methods of definition. And then I explained it. The
informal definition can be denotation or connotation. I ask my participant to read two distinct

In this session, it does not take too long since my client is already familiar with it so we
just conduct a short review and ask her some questions related to the topic which is about
Classification. I gave her a task on which I provided some things that she will classify based on
her understanding. With this, it will be easier for my client to do Classification when making
sentences.
In the morning of April 7, 2022, I start organizing the materials needed in my tutorial, at
exactly 9am, I sent link of Google meet, after that before we start to our discussion, I give an
activity to make this tutorial fun, this activity is called two truth, One lie, I will say 3 statements
and she will analyze it and choose what is lie and truth and after that I started with explaining the
the lesson.
On April16, 2022, during my fourth teaching session with Irish Nicole Decastro, I noticed
that teaching is simpler when your teaching plan is in line with what you want, because it
maintains space with the lesson you're teaching and what you want to happen more. The shy type
has become more engaged in what you ask regarding classes. As one day of school passes, I am
reminded of one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching: the relationships that are built.

Our fourth topic on this subject is Exemplification and Classification. On April 07,2022 at 3

I know to myself that before I start this session, I make sure that he has a rest so that he
will have a space in mind to understand my lesson. I started discussing Exemplification and he
already had several questions on how he will apply this paragraph. So I gave him several
examples like how to start a paragraph using transitional expressions in writing effective
exemplification paragraphs. In order to achieve the objective of my lesson, I must make sure to
understand my examples. Next topic that I discussed is about classification, but a little different
to exemplification. As expected, he always asks questions about the topic which is a good thing
for me. Because I believe that asking questions is one of the good traits and first steps in
learning. After a long discussion, as a challenge of knowledge for Ivan, I gave him an Activity
where he will make a paragraph using exemplification or classification in paragraphs, with the

The fourth day of our tutorial session started at 9:00 a.m. Our lesson is about Exemplification
and Classification. She read the meaning of Exemplification and the transitional expressions in
writing effective exemplification paragraphs. And after she read it, I explained it to her.
Following that is a definition of classification and an example of how it is used by a writer. I also
explained to her how to use transitional expressions when writing effective classification
paragraphs. And then, after we discussed Exemplification and Classification, I gave her an
activity to do. While we are on a google meet, I assigned her to answer an activity. And once
Comparison and Contrast as part of our activity before we proceed to the actual session, I
ask my client to make an illustration on how she will go to compare and contrast things and she
made a Venn diagram. Venn diagram is one of the most common tools that shows the similarities
and differences of things. Moreover, we can compare and contrast too in a way of paragraphs.

I had always prioritized creating strong relationships in my every teaching to provide the ideal
learning environment for my students, but I actually understood the worth of it during the session
on the fifth day of my practice teaching on May 3, 2022. I witnessed my relationships with my
sibling strengthen every day over the course of five sessions in another five placements when I
spent time with her as a student every day of the week. When I reached the point when I would
really work as a genuine teacher, I was terrified to work with the older and more skilled pupils
who came in, but I tried to break down their barriers and recognize them as individuals. I'd like
to recognize the interests, dislikes, strengths, and limitations of each of my future students. I
believe it improved my abilities to teach kids and made learning more fun.

On April 11,2022 we started our fifth session of our project implementation. On our fifth day
we discussed our subject which is Reading and Writing. The lesson we discussed is about
Comparison and Contrast in creating a paragraph. After the discussion I gave him an activity. So
far it was a good start. We enjoyed and learned a lot from our lesson. I gave him a quiz for
evaluation.
Here comes session 5 of our tutorial lesson in the subject of Reading and Writing. For our
topic for this date April 11,2022 we discuss that time is about Comparison and Contrast in
creating a paragraph. This topic is one of my favorites so I don’t find it difficult to discuss.

Rather I would love to give Ivan different examples of paragraphs that we can create using
comparison and contrast. My objective here in teaching this topic is to make connections and
differentiate between text and ideas and make my student engage in critical thinking. When I
observed Ivan, I found out that he learns quickly from this and the expression on his face shows
that he found it too easy. After giving several sample situations where he would compare two
So I finish my discussion, this would not end with a challenge for my dear student. So I
gave him an activity where he will make an essay that will make a comparison between junior

from what I read from his essay I found out that his better days came from junior high. I based it
on what he experienced and what he wrote from this activity. I am amazed that he could apply
my lessons in his life too. To conclude, my experience in this session, that to make your student
have interest in your topic, you must relate it too in their life so that they will have interest in

that's why I answered for something, and it's also time for her to take her modules again. It's a
good thing I have to answer to her so she can spend time with her family, and it's a good thing

As session 6 started, I asked Noah to pray for a good start in our tutorial. We started at 3
PM, May,14 2022 and we had a recap on our previous lesson. After that, we started our 6th
virtual academic tutorial with the topic CAUSE AND EFFECT. We had a good interaction in
this lesson. I give him a quiz after a one hour session. Glad to say that Noah is a good learner
On this date April 14,2022 , our 6th session was held. For this day our topic is about cause
and effect in writing a text or paragraph. Ivan, my student, seemed to have no difficulties in
understanding my lesson. After I discuss my lesson, I give him several examples in order to have
a crystal clear understanding about our topic. Then, I gave him an activity and he answered it and
after that he showed me the answer. I checked it and he answered it all correctly meaning he
learned from my discussion. I tell him that in real life cause and effect can be applied too and I
relate it to daily routines and experience. I end this discussion with application in real life and
creating a text using cause and effect. I thank Ivan for listening to me and giving his attention to
my discussion.

At 10:00 a.m., we began our sixth tutorial session. We were a bit late getting started because
my participant had to initiate something important. And here is our next lesson. The cause and
effect. It is the simplest lesson for my participant. She read the paragraph, and I explained the
concept of cause and effect to her. I also explained to her the signal words she could use when
writing the text. Because the lesson was simple, I asked her to answer two activities.
Our second to the last session was kind of remarkable yet knowledgeable. In this session,
after having a recap on what we had discussed so far, we had an engaging activity wherein my
client and I shared some moments in our lives wherein we faced an unforgettable problem and
how we resolved it. That activity is connected to our seventh lesson which is the Problem-
Solution essay. Although the session was held at night, there is still knowledge gained and also
enjoyable because of the said activity. This session is close to the end so before we finished our
session, my client and I decided to hold our last session face to face. It isn't hard for us to do so
because we belong in the same village. Moreover, we're going to miss this kind of tutorial.

the meaning of Problem - Solution and I give an example to make her easily understand the
lesson.

On April 18, 2022 at 3 PM, we started our seventh virtual academic tutorial. The topic we
discussed is about Problem- Solution Essay in making paragraphs. Noah is attentively listening
and keeps asking questions because he is confused. So I gave him different examples for him to
understand our topic. After the session, we had a quiz for evaluation and he got perfect points.
Today is the 7th day of my virtual academic instruction. Reading and writing will be
discussed, and the seventh topic will be a Problem-Solution Essay. And I'm grateful because as
the days pass and I finish teaching, I can see that I'm happy with what I'm doing and how we
started at 7:30 p.m. because I do a lot and I understand that. I do this because, like you, I have a
large number of modules. And I recognise that you must first comprehend the need of continual
learning, as it will be the teacher's instrument in molding students into better and more
competitive persons.

On this date April 18, 2022, the 7th session of tutorial was held. I met up with Ivan again
and our topic for that day was a Problem-solution essay. This one is a little bit easier, but for
Ivan he needs more enlightenment and clarification. I discussed this lesson well and gave him
several examples. Step by step, I explained to him how to start up writing the essay using
problem-solution. Then I ask him to give some examples of topics that can use problem-solution.
After my discussion, to test his knowledge I gave him an activity. Then he answered it facing
me. After several minutes, I saw his answer and it was all correct. This concludes that Ivan
learned how to use problem-solution and he already has the knowledge to create an essay with a
different topic that can be used in a problem -solution essay. Here below was the documentation

As with previous sessions, our seventh day of tutorial session began with a prayer. Then we
start to study our lesson, the problem-solution. I explained to her what a problem-solution is.
How to write a problem-solution essay that will present a problem. I explained to her what the
following ways to address the problem are. And also how the solution to the problem may be
presented in various ways. And lastly, I discussed some transitional devices that can help to
develop her writing skills especially when she wrote a problem-solution essay. After our

I and my client both agreed that our last session will be held face to face and we both
agreed to do it after our church duties wherein we will have a time to meet each other. As the
session occurred, everything went well. I discussed the last topic which is about Persuasion in
narrating and I even demonstrated it to her . how to do so. This session is both a relief and might
be lonely.
It is a relief because finally I was able to finish this task and I will no longer bother my
client (joke) but also lonely because in this session we were able to communicate and learn with
each other. This session also helped us to have a stronger friendship. In this session, I also gave
her some tasks about summarizing all the topics we had discussed. She remembered all of them
and it is a good thing because this just means that I succeeded, of course with the help of my
client who happened to be a fast-learner and intelligent. Being her friend is a bonus because there
In the morning of April 21, 2022 I start organizing the materials needed in my tutorial, at
exactly 9am, I sent link of Google meet, after that before we start to our discussion, I give an
activity to make this tutorial fun, the activity is she going to describe her father, and after that I
started explaining the meaning of persuasion and I make him an example of persuasion before
we end our discussion I ask her about what she learn? And any question about the topic.

My 8th day session was today, and before I started, I asked him if he understood anything I
taught from the beginning to the Problem-Solution essay, and he answered "yes." Then he told
me everything he learned, and I didn't even videotape or record it. After that, I explained the next
topic we'll discuss, which is Persuasion, and after that, I gave them some activities to do. He
doesn't have much modules now, so I gave him some activities to see if he understood anything.
I pointed it out today because I'm not feeling well, and the result surprised me because he was
almost perfect, which I didn't expect. And as a thank you, I released him after our conversation.

On April 21,2022 we started our eight and final session of our project implementation. On
our last day Noah held a prayer before we start our last topic of our virtual tutorial. The lesson
we discussed is about Persuasion that explains the type of paragraph development that focuses on
presenting points of view to persuade or encourage your reader. After the discussion, I give him
On this date April 21, 2022, the last session of this tutorial was held. The topic that we
discussed is about Persuasion. I start the meeting informing Ivan that this will be the last topic.
So I make sure that this last discussion will be clear to him. While discussing, I give him a set of
sample topics to use when using this persuasive essay. To make him understand, this set of
examples will give him a clarification. It was effective and it seems that he is learning. After
discussing, I ask him what he learned and he responds to me like he already knew. It was a good
response and he progressed fast. As an evaluation, I gave him an activity to answer. After

answering, he showed me his answer and he got a perfect score which is good for both of us. It is
relieving to know that Ivan just needs closure when learning. I complimented him for his effort
and his betterment in studies. I also recommend some learning techniques for him to be able to

As with previous sessions, we began our last day of tutorial with a solemn prayer. Then we
started to study our lesson "Persuasion". I explained to her the definition of Persuasion. She read
the paragraph first and then I explained to her what Persuasion is the Persuasion. I ask my
student to read the 3 types of Persuasion; the ethos, pathos, and logos. And then I explained it.
Ethos is a way of convincing your audience of your credibility as a writer. Pathos is the appeal
to our human emotions.logos is the appeal to our logical side. And after that, I ask her to answer
the activity that I prepared for the last week of our tutorial session.
