II. RATIONALE

Despite the problems caused by the pandemic in educational institutions, the Virtual Academic

Tutorial Session aims to provide learning opportunities for some grade 11 students. It seeks to create a

learning environment that can overcome the learning challenges posed by the pandemic, improve the

academic skills of the learners through online tutorials, and develop a sense of independence in learning

of students.

The main contribution of this project will improve students' knowledge on Reading and Writing

skills. The learners will be more focused on their academics, and their parents will be aware if they are

struggling in this topic. It also aims to teach those learners who struggle with Reading and Writing skills.

The purpose of this project is to improve each student's ability to participate in tutorial sessions to

see improvements in the subject of Reading and Writing skills. Because they might use this learning in

their upcoming classes related to the subject.

III. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The objectives of the project generally aim to provide learning opportunities for Grade 11

students despite the challenges posed by the pandemic to educational institutions.

Specifically, it aims to:

1. Create a learning environment that overcomes the challenges in learning posed by the

pandemic.

2. Improve the academic skills of random Grade 11 students through online tutorials.

3. Develop a sense of independent learning among students.

IV. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A. Background of the Project

We have noticed that the random grade 11 students of San Pablo City , poor academic

skill is prevalent due to absence of parents, teachers and learners study partnership. Parents know

their children better than any teacher, and teachers are very good at giving instructions.

Educating children in the midst of the epidemic can be successful if both of their knowledge sets

are merged. The talents that parents and instructors possess have a shared goal: to assist children

in continuing to develop. This is the bedrock of a more solid partnership.

Lack of comprehension, students who are having difficulty understanding what they are

reading may find themselves struggling throughout the majority of the school day. For students

with reading comprehension issues, any class that requires reading, understanding, and

explaining written content, can be particularly challenging.

Absenteeism can also be a problem in distance learning. Students may fail to attend

online classes or participate in assigned group activities as a result of a poor internet connection.

Furthermore, in addition to not showing up, students can appear to be present without actually

being present.

B. Justification of the Project

According to the study of UNESCO in 2020, due to COVID-19 threat to children, school

has been closed for years not until the pandemic ends. Only online schooling is allowed. As a

result, basic reading skills of elementary students was on a downward curve.

So it is for this reason that we will conduct this project to help every student with their

academic skills improvement. By giving free online academic tutorial, this will help them to

elevate their capabilities to perform in their school task by reading and also to enhance their

knowledge in comprehending lessons

C. Benefits Derived from the Project

The target of our project are random Grade 11 students. The learners will benefit from the

project by having development in their academics. Because our project aims to teach grade 11

students their academic difficulties.

We can observe in the modern environment that some students struggle in their studies

because their teachers can’t pay more attention to them because they study at home, so our team

wants to provide them enough time to teach so that they may learn more. We will also provide

them with materials and the internet, which they will need to attend the meeting because we will

be teaching them online.

D. Coverage

The project will cover the 7 students of the town, specifically the grade 11 students who

want to be part of our project plan which is to help improve their academic skills in an online

tutorial for grade 11 students to be a fast learner.

V. METHODOLOGY

The academic tutorial will be held online wherein we will provide a google meet link that

the students can access to join the said activity. Through this tutorial, we aim to help the

elementary students with their academic skills.

We conducted interviews too, to know what things we might encounter during the project

including the location, background of some senior high students in the town, and what are the

parents' opinion regarding this plan.

Aside from interviews, we also did some research to know the effectiveness of this

project, the pros and cons, and possible circumstances that we might encounter.

IX. GROUP NARRATIVE REPORT (SESSION 1-8)

In our first tutorial session they didn't feel very comfortable with us. And, because it was

the first day of our tutorial session, we took the opportunity to introduce ourselves so that we

could communicate well throughout the discussion of each lesson. We saw that our participants

were becoming more relaxed as the session progressed. Narration has been the topic of our first

session. For this discussion, each of my groupmates created a powerpoint presentation.

On our second day of the tutorial session, we can say that not each participant was that

active because they were still relatively quiet during the tutorial session. But when we ask them

to read what is written in the PPT, they participate. We see that others are still having a bit of a

hard time with the lesson, but we do everything we can to have good communication with each

other. Our second lesson is about Description.

Our participants became more active on the third day of our study. It's not like some of

them are still shy on the first and second days. We asked them if they were having difficulty with

each topic throughout our tutorial session, and some of them said yes, while others said they

were helped to resolve it. Our third topic is Definition.

I can say that our participant was very relaxed throughout our fourth session. We

encouraged them to read the slide presentation, as we did in previous sessions, so they don't get

bored. After the discussion, we prepared an activity to see if they had retained anything from

what we had taught them. We may claim that our tutorial session was successful because the

majority of their responses were excellent.

The fifth day of our tutorial session was very fun because our participants improved a lot,

at first they were even quieter and very shy. Now we see how excited they are to start our fifth

day of tutorial session. We have them read each one in the ppt and then we explain it to them.

They then shared what they learned in the lesson we discussed so we are glad we see them

improve.

In six day of Our tutorials session was very fun because our participants are very active

and they also participate in our discussion, and they are doing great. Their understanding of our

topic can easily give us an example of cause and effect.

In our Seven Session I notice that they are improving a lot, We are so proud to see them

understand our topic we discuss. Being a teacher to them is not easy but seeing them learn our

tiredness is worth it.

In our eight and last session of our project, we can all agree that despite the challenges we

face, we did a great job. We can say this we achieve the desired outcomes of our project which is

to improved their knowledge about Reading and writing skills

This project assists participants in improving their academic writing skills. We all know

that academic writing is one of the most important things that can happen in terms of an

individual's writing and reading skills. They may be able to write an essay and read, but there are

some people who struggle to expand their minds in different types of essay writing.

After conducting the said project from planning implementation we have seen the

progress of every participant as well as the people involved in this project. For the participants,

we observed that there are students who have difficulties in both reading and writing. As for the

coordinators we have seen improvement in terms of assisting people in this type of case and

situation. This project brought many lessons to both parties and people involved.

We conclude that reading and writing skills can frequently aid in engaging reading and

writing skills, as well as comprehension. Reading and writing should be taught to students and

children in the education system and in parent-child relationships.

C. Individual Narrative Report

Afable, Kate Coleen

Session 1 (March 28, 2022)

Due to some changes including revision of our project proposal, changes in participants

and almost the entire plan, we came up with the revised proposal which is about tutoring Grade

11 (HUMSS) students about the subject that they wanted to know about.Truly, this new project

is indeed hard especially the fact that not all in our group tackled Humanities and Social Science

during the Senior High School. Like me, I tackled the STEM Strand that’s why I am not that

familiar with the subjects in HUMSS unless it is about those core subjects that I took too in my

strand. But still, with the help of collaboration with my group mates and through doing research

on the internet, I am hoping that this project will be a success to all of us.In this week, it also

includes our search for the participants and I came up deciding to choose a friend of mine. She's

also the same person whom I had an Assessment Questionnaire with. After discussing what this

tutorial is all about including the subject which is the Reading and Writing Skills together with

the eight lessons that it includes, we had our first meeting that was held face to face in her house.

We also tackle the first lesson which is about 'Narration'.

Alina Maxinne Lyne S.

Session 1 (March 28, 2022)

Name of the student I was going to teach is Aira Nicole Alina, 17 years old from Brgy

Santisimo Rosario. March 27, 2022, before the day of tutorials I'll prepare the materials that I

will need in Reading and writing skills subject tutorials. At exactly 9:00 am I'll started teaching

my student As a student-teacher I want to make sure first that they are familiar about the lesson I

was going to teach. At first, she's totally quiet, she can't express herself because I'm her cousin,

but after 20 minutes of my discussion, she’s became more attentive. We discussed the definition

of narration and its example, and after that I let her read the paragraph and answer the following

question. Before we end our tutorial session I prepared a short video about Narration. After

Session 1 (March 28, 2022)

Irish Nicole De Castro, A 17-year-old Bagong Bayan student, was the student I was going

to teach. On March 28, 2022, the first class and meeting were held. It was difficult to adjust at

first, especially because I was not used to bonding with my sibling in this way, and I also did not

know what to teach first, despite having a lecture, but after many hours, I first asked him, who is

my sibling, what the Reading and Writing Skill subject is for him and if he has any idea what it

is for so that I can know where he has misunderstood what I will discuss before I begin. I

explained the meaning of narration and gave an example when he asked what all the fuss was

about with Reading and Writing Skills. With time, I understood that knowing where your

students are struggling helps you teach more effectively. My first teaching experience showed

me that not everyone has the same life experiences. We've all got a lot of unanswered questions

about our lives.

Cortez, Neza

Session 1 (March 28, 2022)

On March, 28,2022 we started our first session of our project implementation. Noah B.

Magsambol, a 16 year old student, is my virtual learning partner. On our first day we discussed

our subject which is Reading and Writing. The first lesson we discussed is about Narration in

creating a paragraph. After the discussion I gave him an activity. So far it was a good start.

Weenjoyed and learned a lot from our first lesson.

Session 1 (March 28,2022)

On March 28, 2022, the first tutorial was held. The subject to be discussed is about

Reading and writing. The first lesson that I discussed is about Narration in creating a paragraph.

As shown in the picture, he was my student. His name is Ivan Zingke Martinez, 19 years old. He

is a grade - 11 student HUMMS. He finds this subject to be difficult and struggles to understand

it. So as an instructor for him, I teach him the correct and clearer way to understand. I used a

PowerPoint presentation as a visual aid for teaching and delivering my discussion. At first he

struggled in understanding the topic, but I elaborate it to him and make examples to have a

clearer understanding. I was happy when I saw him smile, because I know that moment he has

been enlightened. So as for my test of evaluation. I give him an activity which has to be done in a

way of arranging the correct sequence of the paragraph. I was so delighted to see the result,

because he understood quickly how to use transitional words in identifying the correct sequence

of events. So this proves that he is developing and progressing in understanding this topic. The

picture below is the activity that he answered correctly. After we say goodbye to each other,

there will be a next meeting. So I told him to prepare for the next topic because I know that it

will be more interesting to learn and I thank him as well for the time that he spent listening to

me. Picture of him taking notes.

Session 2 (March 31, 2022)

Being able to revise almost the whole project plan has never been easy. It was like our group

started from the start wherein I concluded that we will be delayed in proceeding to the actual

procedure of the project. This week, via google meet, I had an online meeting with my client

who happens to be my friend too. We continued our lesson last week and this time we tackled

"Description". Sam, my client and a friend, is a fast learner so it isn't that hard to teach her. She

can easily understand the lesson so I just gave her an activity on which I asked her to define what

"Description" all about.

Alina, Maxinne Lyne S.

Session 2 (March 31, 2022)

In the morning of March 31, 2022, I start organizing the materials needed in my tutorial at

exactly 9am, I sent link of Google meet, after that before we start to our discussion, I give an

activity to make this tutorial fun, this activity helps this student to boost their confidence, to

show their talent to make her sing, I'll also sing, even my voice isn't beautiful, she's make me

proud because her voice is so pleasant to hear. I started with explaining the meaning of

description, and what are the two types of descriptive writing. I also gave her an example to

make her easily understand the lesson.

On the second day of my teaching with Irish Nicole De Castro, I was started because she got

active, but when I initially began teaching, I assumed she was either uninterested or too lazy to

listen to me. Then I introduced our topic, which is Description, and I explained some key points

such as the two types of descriptions and the types of words needed to describe them.

We grabbed a snack after I finished educating him so that I could go over everything I had taught

him. Teaching is difficult, especially when the person you're teaching isn't in the mood, therefore

the class will be delayed owing to the participants' large number of modules. So, before I begin

and end, I ask him first, and I reward him for listening to me.

On March 31 2022, that was the day of our second session in the tutorial. It was held in a

virtual meeting again. Also, the topic that I discussed is about making a paragraph through

Description. Ivan found it difficult to understand so I made a powerpoint presentation as visual

aid and with several activities to evaluate his understanding. He says that he doesn’t know how

to start making a paragraph with a description. We discussed it first by giving him my objectives

in discussing this lesson. As I observed him while discussing, I can see that he is willing to learn

thing that I did was to test his knowledge by giving a little activity. Whereas he will describe the

given subject. As I observed him, he is learning fast to me because he can answer my questions

without hesitation. The key to this discussion is that I tell him that he must answer even though it

is wrong because I will accept it and I will correct it. So he participates in my tutorial without

being shy and he's active. He takes important notes too. This is his answered activity. All of his

answers are correct. This proves that he is learning and he understands the lesson. I will continue

to enhance his vocabulary and knowledge in making a paragraph through this. Next session, I

Session 2 (March 31, 2022)

The second day of our tutorial began at 9:30 a.m. As before, we started with a prayer.

After that we had a short game to test my participant's idea about our next topic. And I saw that

she enjoyed the game. Then we began to discuss the lesson about Description. We studied the

definition of description and its two types. The objective description and subjective description. I

ask her to read the lesson in the PPT and then I explain it so that she can understand it better.

Then I gave her an Activity to test if she learned something about the topic I’ve discussed. And

she did well in the activity. After our discussion, I asked her to finish a short activity.

Session 3 (April 4,2022)

On this day, April 4, 2022, our 3rd session was held. The topic to be discussed is about

applying definitions in making paragraphs. We chose this topic that is the scope of the Reading

and Writing subject because we found out that our student found a difficulty in this subject and

they want clarification in re-learning the topics. Ivan, my student to be tutored, was tasked to

listen to my discussion about the definitions. I observed that he is confused, so I gave several

examples for him until he fully understood my lesson. I tell him that he must take notes so that

he will have a reviewer when I give the activity. After the discussion, I gave him a small activity

after he understood all of my examples. As a challenge I gave this to him. I gave 10 minutes to

answer. After that, he sends me his written answer and it is as shown in the picture below.

On April16, 2022, during my fourth teaching session with Irish Nicole Decastro, I noticed

that teaching is simpler when your teaching plan is in line with what you want, because it

has become more engaged in what you ask regarding classes. As one day of school passes, I am

reminded of one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching: the relationships that are built.

Our fourth topic on this subject is Exemplification and Classification. On April 07,2022 at 3

pm we started discussing our topic. I teach him the familiarization of the two most common

partners of paragraph, the exemplification and classification. I can tell that he is so interested in

our topic while I was explaining it to him. I asked him to give an example paragraph regarding

our lesson. We also had an oral recitation after our lesson.

Session 4 (April 4,2022)

On this day, April 7, 2022, our 4th session was held. The topic to be discussed is about

applying Exemplification / Classification in making paragraphs. This topic would be a little

complicated for Ivan to clearly understand. So I make sure that I finish this session with the

knowledge he could gain.

I know to myself that before I start this session, I make sure that he has a rest so that he

will have a space in mind to understand my lesson. I started discussing Exemplification and he

already had several questions on how he will apply this paragraph. So I gave him several

examples like how to start a paragraph using transitional expressions in writing effective

exemplification paragraphs. In order to achieve the objective of my lesson, I must make sure to

understand my examples. Next topic that I discussed is about classification, but a little different

to exemplification. As expected, he always asks questions about the topic which is a good thing

for me. Because I believe that asking questions is one of the good traits and first steps in

learning. After a long discussion, as a challenge of knowledge for Ivan, I gave him an Activity

where he will make a paragraph using exemplification or classification in paragraphs, with the

topic about context/locality.

Session 5 (April 11,2022)

I had always prioritized creating strong relationships in my every teaching to provide the ideal

learning environment for my students, but I actually understood the worth of it during the session

on the fifth day of my practice teaching on May 3, 2022. I witnessed my relationships with my

sibling strengthen every day over the course of five sessions in another five placements when I

spent time with her as a student every day of the week. When I reached the point when I would

really work as a genuine teacher, I was terrified to work with the older and more skilled pupils

who came in, but I tried to break down their barriers and recognize them as individuals. I'd like

to recognize the interests, dislikes, strengths, and limitations of each of my future students. I

believe it improved my abilities to teach kids and made learning more fun.

Rather I would love to give Ivan different examples of paragraphs that we can create using

comparison and contrast. My objective here in teaching this topic is to make connections and

differentiate between text and ideas and make my student engage in critical thinking. When I

observed Ivan, I found out that he learns quickly from this and the expression on his face shows

that he found it too easy. After giving several sample situations where he would compare two

different ideas, he would simply give examples too.

So I finish my discussion, this would not end with a challenge for my dear student. So I

gave him an activity where he will make an essay that will make a comparison between junior

and senior high. I know that he will reminisce about his days in junior high, and surprisingly

from what I read from his essay I found out that his better days came from junior high. I based it

on what he experienced and what he wrote from this activity. I am amazed that he could apply

my lessons in his life too. To conclude, my experience in this session, that to make your student

have interest in your topic, you must relate it too in their life so that they will have interest in

listening to their teacher’s discussion.
