*How does the artist use the Elements of art and Principles of design ?
Leo Twiggs use the elements and principles of art in his painting by doing
the ancient process of batik. He began to experiment with the process on his own,
recognizing that the medium could produce color variations that ran the gamut
from jewel-like intensity to faded remnants of the past. The lines and textures,
which he achieved when the wax cracked and the dyes ran over and into each
other, produced an effect that he was not able to realize through painting. Batik's
African connection as a traditional process used to decorate fabric also attracted his
interest. Twiggs's early work in batik reflected on his work, The Blue Wall.
The thing that stands out in the artwork is the two boys who is thin and lost
in their own estrangement, and also the color that Artist Twig used in the painting
itself.
The focal point in the art work is also the two boys and the shape of their
featureless heads suggest shadowy pre-natal silhouettes and link back in time to the
carved figures of their African ancestors, making past, present, and future resonate
within the familiar.
My eye moves directly at the center cause the focal point or the main subject
is in that spot, then I gradually look around the painting to see the quality or the
value of color did Mr. Twig use in it.

*Tell the meaning or the mood of the art based on the analysis.
In this work, O’Keeffe isolates a single skull, highlighting its jagged edges,
worn surfaces, and bleached color. To O’Keeffe, such bones represented the
desert’s enduring beauty and the strength of the American spirit, which is alluded
to in the striped background.
First, this work was inspired by a drought in the American Southwest that
caused the death of many animals. O’Keeffe witnessed the drought and was
intrigued by the animal carcuses that littered the landscape. She even shipped some
of the bones back to her studio in New York. She knew she would want to paint
images of them one day.
*You play a detective, you need to try to understand what the artist was
thinking or feeling.
Here is what Georgia O’Keefe had to say about painting the Cow’s Skull
Red, White and Blue:
“To me they are as beautiful as anything I know…the bones seem to cut sharply to
the center of something that is keenly alive on the desert even tho’ it is vast and
empty and untouchable.” (Source: AIC)
Interestingly, she painted this skull, in which she saw life, with artificial flowers.
This is a nod to the way graves were decorated in New Mexico.
So, after admiring the work simply for the visual appeal, I was fascinated to learn
about the drought. Also, I’d never known the flowers were artificial. Learning
about the symbolism has made me appreciate it on a much greater level.

*This is where you give your opinion about the work in two ways:
1. Is the artwork successful? Did the artist masterfully use the media? Did the
artist convey the message that was intended across?
2. Personal opinion – Do you like it? Why or why not? What improvements
could be made?
Yes, Because the painting is too realistic actually at first I thought it was not
a painting and it was just a picture but when I found out that it was made of oil in
canvas I was amazed at how well it was made. For me, the artwork is well made
and I don't think I can suggest any more improvements for it.
