FIGHTING FAKE NEWS

Major issue:
The sharing of fake news online, especially on social media, has been rampant in schools and continents.
Social media is the major space facilitating the spread of inappropriate
information. This fact has declared the credibility of the shared
information to be difficult. Everyone in the college is a frequent user
of social media, making them the greatest spreaders of fake news.
Recent research by the institution shows that students have failed to
evaluate the authenticity of any information online keenly and have
shared it without the knowledge that it is fake news. The school will
clearly define what fake news is for the sake of the individuals who
will be found guilty of sharing fake news and will claim not to
know. Fake [THE QUOTE IS BOLD AND news is any form of wrong information and
DISTINCTIVE. THE GALLERIES disinformation that is mainly shared to lie to
people. INCLUDE ITEMS THAT ARE Disinformation will be considered intentionally
wrong and DESIGNED TO COORDINATE misleading. This institution has been a victim of
fake news WITH THE OVERALL LOOK OF severally. This led to adverse impacts such as
panic among YOUR DOCUMENT] students and parents. It has even led to serious
effects like injuries and death. It also caused our institution
to face some serious image plunge that led to huge financial
losses.

Necessary steps
The institution upholds
integrity, and it is our duty to
ensure that there is no
dishonesty in the form of fake
news. Therefore, several
measures will be implemented
with the aim of protecting itself
from fake news. The school will
introduce a program that equips
students with critical thinking
skills. The skills will help
students to possess important
habits such as identifying
credible sources of information,
lateral reading and assessing the
interest behind the promotion of
a specific story through directed
discussions. The discussions
will help students in school and
everywhere in the world
critically understand news as a

learning and in pointing out and
countering moves by certain
people to compromise news and
information.
Also, the college will
introduce courses in media
literacy. The courses are meant
to equip students with skills in
investigating if the information
is fake news or authentic. They
will also make students aware
of disinformation campaigns on
the internet. Further, it will
improve the literacy skills of
everyone in judging the
reliability of the information
sources.
Survey
From the graph above, it is
clear that the spread of fake
news is becoming rampant as
time goes on. If no measures are
put in place, fake news will
cause even more harm. Fake
news is the root of all chaos and
demonstrations earlier
witnessed by students. These
have disrupted normal
operations in the institution,

wasting time. Most higher
education institutions have
faced the same problem fueled
by the spread of fake
information. Current
researchers have stated that by
2030, inaccurate information
will be the number one problem
in most learning institutions. It,
therefore, requires urgent
measures as an institution in
order to curb this issue
promptly to ensure that only
correct and authentic
information is shared within the
school.
Adopted actions
All students are required to
utilize specific sites in assessing
the trueness of a story. The sites
are such as factcheck.org and
snopes.com. Any other site not
mentioned above will be
considered inapplicable. The
sites will help in explaining
how facts and lies are presented.
All students are also advised to
take individual responsibility in
fighting the spread of fake news
byways like evaluating if the
information is sensational
before forwarding it to their
fellow students. Everyone
should remember that fake news
spreads very fast. Students
should also know that reading
information from online sources
only minimizes their
perspective and exposes them
further to fake news. In case a
student identifies a fake story,
they are advised to inform
others. It is not enough to point
out fake information and keep
quiet; one has to take the
appropriate step of empowering
others with the discovery.
Additionally, legal actions
will be taken against anyone
found guilty of spreading fake
information in this institution.
They are punishable through
fines or laws suits depending on
the intensity of their actions.
Everyone is also advised to
report anyone spreading fake
news in the institution, failure to
which one will be considered an
accomplice.
 The American University of the Middle East is committed to enhancing honesty
and integrity in all its dealings. Fake news has in the past caused adverse
effects in the past, which we wish never to recur. Therefore, all the set
measures will be followed to the letter. Everyone is advised to take the
precautions pointed out in order to help us reduce the spread of fake news. We
urge each individual in this college to help us achieve this.
