AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL - Job Instruction Cards

INTRODUCTION

The Aircraft Maintenance Manual for the ATR conforms to ATA Specification
No. 100, Revision 21. The ATR Consortium declines all responsibility in the event
that the instructions given in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual are observed
in their entirety.

ATR Technical Publications use both metric and non-metric systems of measurement.
The system used in the original reference documents is quoted first, followed by
the conversion into the other system in brackets.

The Aircraft Maintenance Manual has been split into two manuals :

- The Description and Operation Manual whose technical content corresponds to

pages 1 to 99 of the conventional Aircraft Maintenance Manual.

- The Job Instruction Card Manual whose technical content corresponds to pages
201 to 899 ; this Manual contains the necessary data to cover Scheduled
Maintenance Procedures prescribed by the Maintenance Review Board (MRB) or the
Minimum Master Equipment List (MMEL).

The Job Instruction Card manual has been divided into two sections :

- Section 1 contains general information.

- Section 2 contains the Job Instruction cards only.

This section contains the following informations :

- Chapter 06 : Dimensions and areas (zoning and access).

- Chapter 20 : Standard practices (materials, standard torque

values...).

2. SECTION 2 - JOB INSTRUCTION CARDS

The job instruction cards contain the following information :

(1) The title of the documented task (TITLE)

(2) A reference number, made up as follows :

A. ATA breakdown : ATA specification No. 100, Chapter/Section/Subjet,

6 numerical characters.

B. Task code : Mnemonique code indicating the reason for the task,
3 alphabetic characters

C. Task number : 5 alphanumeric characters having the mandatory arrangement

100 for the first three characters, the last two evoluting
according to the number of JIC with the same ATA reference
and task code.

D. Variant : 3 numerical characters :

for the first issue of a JIC the number is 001. It is then
incremented at the creation of each new variant.
The variant number represents a technical solution. The
effectivity of the solution is indicated in the "EFFECT APPL"
column of "LEC/TOC", and is expressed in the airline's ATR
fleet serial number.
Example :

NOTE : The Maintenance Planing Document (MPD) task identifier is

identical to the JIC identifier down the task number
level.

Example : MPD task identifier 27-21-00 CHK 10000-1

JIC task identifier 27-21-00 CHK 10000-002

(3) Location, on the aircraft, of the work zone (ZONE).

(4) Quantity, designation and reference of any necessary Ground Support

Equipment (GSE) and any on-board equipment that may be required for MMEL
tasks.

The special tools and equipment required for the maintenance operations
are defined :

- Either by their part numbers when they are listed in the Illustrated
Tool and Equipment Manual (ITEM).

- Or by their main features.

The use of the airline of equivalent material can be recommended only

after making certain that the substitude has the technical
characteristics required for correctly performing the maintenance
procedure described. The maintenance procedures associated with the use
by the airlines of "equivalent" tools fall under their own
responsability.

(5) Quantity and designation of spares (SPARE).

CHAPTER 00

(6) Quantity and designation of expandable items (EXPANDABLE).

The job instruction card does not quote part numbers of spare parts and
expendable items but gives a corresponding Catalog Sequence Number (CSN)
to facilitate location in the Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).

NOTE 1 : In the JIC, the figure variant is never indicated in the CSN.

Example : ATA Figure Item

(6 digits) + variant No.

CSN with the variant

indicated in the IPC 273110 10A 280

CSN as indicated in
the JIC 273110 10 280

NOTE 2 : In special cases, such as Equipment and Furnishings

(chapter 25), the Item No. is not indicated in the CSN.

Example : ATA Figure Item

(6 digits) + variant No.

CSN with item No.

indicated in the IPC 251100 05 040

CSN indicated in
the JIC 251100 05

(7) Designation and code of materials used (BULK MATERIALS).

All materials which are prescribed for use during maintenance procedures
are coded and recoded in Chapter 20-31-00, section 1.

(8) The simplified title and reference of a restriction number of cards

describing complementary operations (PUBLICATION).

(9) A description, consisting of a series of texts, each one documenting an

elementary task including mandatory safety precautions to be applied by
the personnel performing the job. (TASK DESCRIPTION).

Note : The word "END OF TEXT" shall be printed after the last elementary
task of the job instruction card.

(10) The illustrations, located after the text, shall detail and locate
components and access.

The job instruction card shall include provision for :

* Mechanic's signature and Inspector's stamp, (MECH. - INSP.).

* Supply, on operator's request, information concerning manpower

(elapsed time, manhours, number of men and skills required).

Note : If no planning data is necessary for the performance of a task,

the titles of corresponding columns shall not appear on the
COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATIONS page.

B. Chapter Breakdown Policy

------------------------

Each chapter is broken down into sections or sub-systems

(combinations of functional/physical groups).

example :

27-00-00 Flight Controls - General

27-10-00 Aileron and Tab
27-20-00 Rudder and Tab

Each section is broken down into sub-sections or sub-systems

(Installations/Circuits).

example :

27-10-00 Aileron and Tab

27-11-00 Mechanical Control - Aileron
27-12-00 Trim Aileron
27-15-00 Indicating

Each sub-section or installation/circuit is divided into zones

(geographical zones).

example :

27-11-00 Mechanical Control - Aileron

27-11-10 Mechanical Control - Nose
27-11-10 Mechanical Control - Fuselage
27-11-70 Mechanical Control - Wing

Each zone is divided into units or components of an intermediary zone.

example :

27-11-10 Mechanical Control - Nose

27-11-11 Control Wheel
27-11-12 Control Column and Cables
27-11-13 Pulleys - Quadrants

The last two digits represent a zone and a unit or component of this zone.

C. Cross Reference Policy

----------------------

(1) Cross References within the Aircraft Maintenance Manual -

Job Instruction Cards. The number of cross-references has been limited
to three main cases :

a. Cross reference to a job instruction card of another chapter, in

the case of energizing of an aircraft electrical network,
pressurization of the hydraulic system, test, etc...

b. Cross reference to the list of materials (20-31-00) so as to

achieve flexibility in updating the list of materials recommended
for aircraft maintenance.

c. Cross reference to another job instruction card within the same

sub-section (XX-XI-OO).

example : in the case of replacement of a component requiring

testing of the whole installation/ circuit.

(2) Cross references to other manuals

a. Cross reference to the Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).

Part numbers and expendable item numbers can easily be located
through the job instruction card breakdown sequence number.

b. Cross reference to the Illustrated Tool and Equipement Manual

(ITEM).

c. Cross reference to the Pratt & Whitney Maintenance Manual where

applicable.

4. REVISION OF MANUAL

Manual revisions must be performed using the list of effective cards/table of

contents by complete task and not by page.

In the table of contents, a movement code indicates the new job instruction
card status.

R = Revised card

N = New card

D = Deleted card

Furthermore, a highlight of the revision gives a precise description of the

reason for change in the job instruction card.
