(a) Risk and its impact identification

Risk of Carimichel project in the Galilee Basin:

 The extinction of delicate species like the decorative snake and the Yaka skink, a
large lizard.
 An increase in the concentration of dust in the atmosphere.

Impact identification the Carimichel project in the Galilee Basin:

 Erosion may increase in frequency due to changes in the surface of the work
piece, groundwater levels, and erosion.
 The destruction of native plant and animal life.
 The removal of waste products used in the development of the rail and mining
tunnels.
 Noise levels that cause environmental risks can develop during the
construction phase.

(b)Impact Measurement
The Carmichael project influences not just the environment but also human life and fauna. As is
well known, coal mining has an adverse impact on the environment and releases coal methane
gas, a green house gases twenty times more powerful than carbon dioxide.

By following steps, the impact of mining cab be reduced:

• The first step can be to choose locations and plan projects so that they don't have an impact on areas
with significant biodiversity.

• The second step can be to reduce the noise and dust so that species can continue to behave in their
natural ways even in the presence of a mine or underground mining infrastructure.

• The fourth step is to construct plantings in the mining region to preserve biodiversity.

• The fifth step is to implement control measures such wet drilling, water spraying of haul routes, etc.

(c) Impact Interpretation

 One of the largest mining and railway projects in the world, the Carmichael project cost an
impressive 16 billion dollars to develop. However, a federal court halted the project after
determining that it would endanger the lives of two threatened animals inside the Galilee Basin:
the snake and the Yakka skink
 The mine and rail projects would devastate the terrain and the current environmental conditions,
therefore the project's effects extended beyond the two vulnerable species.
 The installation of rail accessibility is an unavoidable environmental intervention that has a major
negative impact due to the cutting down of trees, earth extraction, and embankment. Massive
amounts of discarded rock and soil are hauled to the surface by mining, but when this debris
comes into touch with air and water, it usually turns toxic.
 Subsidence is caused when mines fail and the earth above them starts to sink. This causes serious
building damage. Changes in working groundwater and surface water levels, a possible rise in
erosion events, and an increase in the concentration of dust in the atmosphere are only a few
examples of geomorphologic alteration.

(d)Impact communication to stakeholders

The impact financial stakeholders are as follows:

 The Australian Commonwealth Bank declared that it will no longer operate as the
project's financial consultant in response to the court's ruling. A $1 billion funding for the
project was announced by the State Bank of India the previous year, which caused a
small uproar because it fell during Modi's tour to Australia. SBI, however, has opted not
to seek the project's loan this year due to its weak financial sustainability. Several other
financial institutions and organizations have also declined to lend money to the project,
although for environmental grounds. These include JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, and
Goldman Sachs.

 The court's decision was not well received by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott,
who has reportedly demanded a halt to the nation's green sabotage of coal projects.
Adding that the "Since it was crucial for Queensland's economic growth and the welfare
of potentially tens of millions of individuals in India, a nation should, in theory, support
projects like this.
