Nellcor Puritan Bennett

740 Ventilator
The NPB 740 ventilator is designed for
intra-hospital transport of adult and
pediatric patients. An internal battery
charges whenever the unit is connected
to an AC power source. The internal
battery lasts approximately 2.5 hours. No
compressed AIR gas source is needed.
The support stand holds two E cylinders.

Modes include volume controlled

Assist/Control and SIMV. Spontaneous
ventilation includes pressure support and
CPAP. The only trigger mechanism is a
flow trigger adjustable from 1 - 20 LPM.
There is no flow during exhalation with
the flow trigger. Internal gas flow
through a 50 micron gap around the
piston drive mechanism allows the unit
to detect the beginning of the patient's
inspiratory flow which moves the piston
forward.

When a mode is selected, the indicators for all the necessary controls are
illuminated and flash. The operator touches the key pad of each control, adjusts
the value with the knob, and presses the ACCEPT pad located immediately
above the knob.

The same touch, adjust,

accept pattern is used
to adjust the alarms
located in the lower
corner next to LED
linear airway pressure
monitor.

The alarms are:

 Low inspiratory pressure
 High airway pressure
 Low tidal volume
 High tidal volume
 High respiratory rate
 Low minute volume

A 5-beep pattern identifies High

Priority alarms while Medium
Priority alarms have 3 beeps.

The Apnea Parameters are

available in spontaneous
ventilation. Next to Apnea
Parameters is the Menu key which
allows the operator to scroll
through 10 different functions using
the knob. A Short Self Test is
accessible which takes about 3
minutes to do. Lists of alarms
which have autoreset may also be
viewed in the message window via
the Menu key.
