Purpose of this assignment


This assignment will enable learners to apply the concept of how to organize, present,
interpret business related data and turn them into useful information to assist in better
decision making. Students will learn how to analyze information and provide practical
recommendations to solve business related problems.
Scenario
Table below contains data collected from a sample of 40 individuals who ordered
food through multiple online applications between 11:00am to 2:00pm last

1. For each type of data (gender, time spent, app used, amount spent, age, 6
type of food), classify if the type of data is qualitative or quantitative. If it is
quantitative, determine if it is discrete or continuous. Identify the level of
measurement of each type of data, state if they are nominal, ordinal, interval
or ratio.
2. Calculate the mean and standard deviation for the time spent on the food 10
apps by both the male and female groups. Compare the values obtained
and comment on the findings
3. Calculate the mean and standard deviation for the age of the individuals 10
according to gender. Compare the values obtained and comment on the
findings.
4. Determine the mode for the types of food app used. 2

5. Construct a bar chart and a pie chart for the types of food app used. 10
Comment on both charts.
6. Construct a frequency distribution table for amount spent by the individuals. 12
The table should include frequency, % frequency, and cumulative
percentage frequency.
7. Construct a histogram for amount spent by the individuals. Comment on the 6
graph.
8. Calculate Q1, Q2, Q3 and IQR for amount spent by the individuals. Explain 10
the four values calculated.
9. Construct an ogive for amount spent by the individuals. Estimate Q1, Q2, 10
Q3 using the ogive. Compare the three estimates with those values
calculated in the previous task (Task 8). Comment on the results obtained.
10. Plot the Stem and Leaf display and the Box Plot for the age of the individuals 10
(round the age to the nearest integer). Comment on both of the diagrams.
11. Construct a scatter plot of the time spent vs. amount spent. Comment on 6
the relationship.
12. Based on the key findings from task 2 to 11, propose actions to be taken for 8
restaurant owners in order to boost their online food sales and also actions
to be taken by food app operators in order to attract more users to their
platforms.

 All graphs MUST be plotted using Microsoft Excel.
 The assignment MUST be word-processed using Microsoft Word and all plotted
graphs must be compiled in the same Microsoft Word file.
 Submit the softcopy of your final assignment in PDF format through the channel
instructed by your lecturer. Please attach the Assignment Cover Sheet together
with your assignment.
