2.Outline of UD150B-40/V-40/L-40
2.1 Comparison between B-30 series and B-40 series
All P.C.B. are redesigned at New UD series (UD150B-40/V-40/L-40). So, it isn’t
compatible with old X-ray high voltage generator(B-30 series etc.).
In case of B-30 series, Boards are parted into by the function. However, almost of
functions in B-40 series are processed by CPU on UD CONT2002.

Relationship functions and Boards.

2-1
2.2 kV control
Case of B-30 series, NEXSC output “setting tube voltage signal(RKV)”.
I/O CONT received the signal(RKV) and convert digital to analog signal(PKV).
O n the other hand, B-40 series output PKV directly from CPU, and convert digital
to
analog on UD CONT2002.

Feedback signals(KVFB+/KVFB-)are input to KV_ADJ Board from resistor

detection
inside H.V.trans. And these signal are turned over from KV_ADJ Board to UD
CONT2002 . At the last, UD CONT2002 make “measured kV signal(TKV)” from
these signals.
*** So, when UD CONT2002 is damaged and change, leave KV_ADJ Board and use
new UD CONT2002 and old existing KV_ADJ Board. (Because KV_ADJ Board
have combination with H.V.trans.)***

UD CONT2002 take in “setting kV signal(RKV)” ,”setting mA signal(RMA)” and

“charged voltage signal(VP)”. UD CONT2002 output directly pulse signal(VS/VN) that
is based on gate signal of IGBT. When X-ray exposure start, compensation value from
feedback circuit is add to VN, and CPU(UD CONT) output this signal as VIN.

2.3 mA control
In case of B-30/L-30 series, NEXSC PCB output signals, RMA , FVR and LMT.
These signals are exchanged from digital signals to analog ,and use to dispose of
mA control.
B-40/L-40 series have these analog signals too, but does not use these signals for
mA control. CPU have FVR data matrix. CPU output FVR data from this matrix to
FPGA(M29) directly ,on conditions of input digital data. And FPGA hand over
Gate-pulse to mA POWER2002.

Concerning feedback motion, CPU read TMA and IFV value ,and output pulse for
heating filament directly that include feedback in case of B-40/L-40 series.
B-30/L-30 series feedback TMA and IFV on analog circuit.

2.4 abnormal detection circuit.

Abnormal detections are as follow ,
TKV OVER
………detected by H/W. B-40 series stop exposure when kV+ or kV- reach
more than 90kV or measured kV is over set kV more than 30kV.
TkV UNDER
………When measured kV is lower than 66% of set kV ,detected by S/W after
30ms from exposure.
CHGOVER
………When VP1, VP2 and VP are over more than 395V , detected by S/W.

RADIO OVER CURRENT

………When measured mA is over than “setting mA + 200mA” , detected by
S/W after 30ms from exposure.
IF Over
………detected by S/W. When IFV is over a limit, CPU stop to output gate
drive signal, Q14/Q23.
ARC OVER
………When H/W detect the arc , FPGA retry exposure after 15ms pause.

2-5
H o w e v e r the number of retry is till three times. If arc happen 4 times,
exposure will be stopped with FAULT message.
LINE VOLTAGE
………Power source voltage is over more than 30% or is lower less than
20% ,this error message appear and stop Xray.
RmA OVER
………CPU measured MAM and if the value is over more than “RmA +
200mA”,
this message will appear.

2.5 Sec Control

A case of B-30/L-30 , Radiography-start-signal (KVT) is made by ANALOG-96 , and
this signal is handed over to EMC , I/O and NEXSC. The last, this signal is altered to
Xray-cut-off-signal(SOF).
However , in case of B-40/L-40 , KVT signal is sent from UD CONT to FPGA when
TKV reach at 94% of PKV. And then FPGA stop X-ray at the time when KTR-F reach to
the set time by CPU.
On the other hand , a case KVT signal doesn’t reach to 94% of PKV , CPU output KVT
forcibly when 10ms later from X-ray ON(EXRR : LD5).

4.4 Notes for installation, adjustment, check, and troubleshooting

With UD150B-40/L-40, there are some notes for installation, adjustment, check, and
troubleshooting. Please make sure to follow them. Failing to do so may lead to
breakage of the instrument, secondary problems, or fire accidents.

(1) Notes for installation

1) Operation check on MG-RS and MG-D
When the power is turned ON, confirm that charge control resistance RSU, RSV,
and RSW are short-circuited at MG-RS and that discharge resistance RD- and
RD+ are open at MG-D. Charging when charge control resistance RSU, RSV, RSW,
discharge resistance RD-, and RD+ are connected may cause a fire accident.
Example: X-ray exposure when MGRS is not short-circuited
In this situation, an abnormal waveform where kV and mA gradually lower
appears. The drop is so gradual that the 15 kv drop detection circuit does not stop
oscillation. (If you check VP in this state, you can see that the charging voltage
suddenly drops because the capacitor is charged when charge control resistance is
connected.) Use of the instrument in this condition leads to burnout of MG-RS.

2) Make sure to turn OFF tube current feedback before adjusting the tube current.
Make sure to turn OFF mAFC in the adjustment mode (FVR mode) and tube
current feedback before adjusting the radiography tube current. Proper
adjustment is impossible when it is ON.

3) Check mA and kV waveforms using the oscilloscope during tube current

adjustment.
Measured values displayed by the MPU PC board are based on monitoring for a
certain period. When there is a problem, the protection circuit usually stops
oscillation and an error message is displayed. However, a problem may not be
detected by the protection circuit. Connect the oscilloscope to MAM and TKV and
monitor waveforms in order to check for a problem that occurs during time other
than the monitoring period. Connection to the secondary meter enables proper
tube current adjustment.

4-4
Matters to be avoided at all costs

(1) Do not carry out X-ray operation when the high-voltage cable is disconnected.
Doing so with an inverter-type high-voltage generator will damage diode of the
IGBT unit or high-voltage transformer. Bad contact of a high-voltage cable may also
cause damage.

(2) Do not operate the filament heating circuit output side unloaded.
Turning ON the FET block of MA-POWER2002 unloaded may cause damage.
This is the same when J3 of MA-POWER2002 is disconnected.

(3) Do not connect the ground wire of the oscilloscope power plug.
Use the instrument without connecting the GND terminal of the oscilloscope’s
power outlet in order to prevent breakage. Do not perform measurements with
different reference potentials between CH1 and CH2.

(4) Turn OFF the power when connecting/disconnecting PC boards or connectors.

Make sure to turn OFF the power before inserting/removing boards or
connecting/disconnecting connectors.

Addition
Using this instrument (B-40/L-40), the inverter can be oscillated by connecting an
oscilloscope/DVM to the VIN (CP14) signal. (Connection to the F (CP12) signal is
impossible same as other models.)

4-5
4.5 Preparation for test operation

Prepare to test the Ready and X-ray operations without charging the electrolysis
condenser of the inverter unit. These connections must be restored when they
become unnecessary for other checking or adjustment. Restore them to their original
states after the preparation process is completed.

6. Changing a PC board
Introduction
This section describes adjustment procedures to be taken at plants. Refer to this section
when there is a problem at a customer's site or readjustment is necessary after
replacement of a PC board or other parts. Adjustment work described in this section is
unnecessary at installation.
Use an about 18 meter-long high-voltage cable (low-capacity type) for adjustment work
at a plant. (Using a high-voltage cable other than 18 meter-long ones may hinder
adjustment work because normal waveforms cannot be obtained.)

Measuring instruments necessary for adjustment work

(1) X-ray tube voltmeter, X-ray tube ampere meter (ones calibrated within a past year)
(2) Oscilloscope (with a memory function): 100M S/S or more
(3) Digital voltmeter (Abbreviated as D.V.M or tester. The one with three decimal
places is preferable.)
(The one with DC1000V range)
(4) Direct current meter (The one that can measure about 0.1 mA to 1 A)
