Steps in Project Method

1. Purposing. This step includes the cooperative setting up of goals and the selection of the
problem by the teacher and the learners.

2. Planning. Like purposing, this step is also a cooperative activity of the teacher and the
learners. The planning projects should observe the following guidelines:
- The goals should be clear, specific and simple
- The student should be made to recognize whether the problem is within her ability to
solve.
- A careful analysis should be made of the things which will be done.
- The work to be done and the time needed for it should be thought trough.
- Ways to get assistance, if needed should also be planned for.
- Consideration should be given to the conditions under which the work is to be done.

3. Executing. This step refers to the actual carrying out of the plans made. Observation
while the work is in progress, home visits, and cursory examination of written records
about the project help the teacher during the project execution of the students.

4. Evaluation. Tied up with the purposing step, evaluation of the learners’ project may be
done through the use of scoreboard, checklist, rating scale, and other evaluative devices.
