LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET NO. 11

Quarter 2 Week 6

Name of Student: _____________________________________

Date: _________________________

PERFORMING TWO OR MORE DIFFERENT OPERATIONS

ON WHOLE NUMBERS WITH OR WITHOUT EXPONENTS
AND GROUPING SYMBOLS

I. Introductory Concept
In this activity sheet, you will learn how to evaluate
expressions with exponents and to perform operations in grouping
symbols such as braces, brackets or parentheses. The rules will
guide you on how to do the learning tasks with ease. Have fun
while learning.

II. Learning Skills from the MELCs

Performs two or more different operations on whole numbers
with or without exponents and grouping symbols (M6NS-IIf-149)

III. Activities
LET US REVIEW

Give the value of the following exponential notation

1. 25 = ______________
2. 52 · 53 = ______________
3. 42 · 52 = ______________

4. 24 + 25 = ______________

5. (24)0 + 32 = ______________

LET US STUDY
Study the problem below.

Kim, Rio and Jason got different answers for this problem: 2 + (7 x
3) – 5 = N. Kim’s answer was 22, Rio’s answer was 9, and Jason’s answer
was 18. Who got the correct answer?

To solve the problem:

2 + (7 X 3) – 5
2 + 21 -5
23 – 5 = 18
Answer: 18

So, Jason got the correct answer

2
Applying the GEMDAS rule:
Grouping symbols, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition
and Subtraction.

1) 4 + (6 x 5) – (81 ÷ 32 ) 3) 2 1 + 4 (2+1) + 3
Solution: Solution:
4 + (6 x 5) – ( 81 ÷ 9) 2 1+ 4 (3) +3
4 + 30 – (81 ÷ 9) 2 1+ 12 + 3
4 + 30 - 9 2 1+ 15
34 – 9 = 25 2 16
Answer: 25 Answer: 32

2) 56 ÷ 7 + (17-32 ) 4) 3 + 6 (11 + 1 – 4) ÷ 8 x 2
Solution: Solution:
56 ÷ 7 + (17-9) 3 + 6 (12 -4) ÷ 8 x 2
56 ÷ 7 + 8 3 + 6(8) ÷ 8 x 2
8 + 8 = 16 3 + 48 ÷ 8 x 2
Answer: 16 3+6x2
3 + 12 = 15
Answer: 15

LET US PRACTICE

A. 8 B. 4 C. 12 D. 10

3) (93 + 7) x 6 + 10
A. 500 B. 600 C. 610 D. 650

4) (36 – 6) + [(3 x 42) + 7]

A. 120 B. 163 C. 100 D. 150

5) (72 + 15) x 4 – (625 ÷ 125)

A. 343 B. 234 C. 454 D. 356

3
LET US REMEMBER

To perform an expression with more than two operations, follow the

following rules:
1. Perform operation starting with the innermost grouping symbols such
as parentheses, braces or brackets.
2. Simplify an expression with exponents.
3. Perform any multiplication or division as the operation appears from
left to right.
4. Perform addition or subtraction as the operation appears from left to
right.

LET US PRACTICE MORE

Perform the indicated operations following the rules. Choose your
answer from the box.

1. 72 + 18 ÷ 6 = _______ 34
2. 136 – (72 + 50) = _______ 37
3. 52 ÷ 5 x 10 - 42 = _______ 52
4. 10 65 – (22 ) = _______ 293
5. 82 x (15 ÷ 3) – 27 = _______ 610

EVALUATION
