LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET – MATH VI
Quarter 2 Week 6

Lesson 1: Describing the Exponent and the Base in a Number Expressed in

Exponential Notation
Lesson 2: Giving the Value of a Number Expressed in Exponential
Notation

REMINDER: The learner may need the help or assistance of someone in the family (parent/guardian or older siblings)
who may read, explain, illustrate the instructions and explain the discussions in each activity. If the instructions have
been made clear, the learner should work independently on the

Working with Order of Operations

Lesson 1: Performing Two or More Operations on Whole Numbers without

Exponents and Grouping Symbols

We follow the MDAS Rule when performing two or more operations. MDAS stands
for Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.

To use this rule, just remember:

1. Multiply or divide as you go from left to right.
2. Add or subtract as you go from left to right.

Example 1
8–5+4x7÷2
Example 2
16 ÷ 4 x 5 + 7 - 8

Example 3
18 ÷ 6 + 3 x 9 – 20

18 ÷ 6 + 3 x 9 – 20 Perform division: 18 ÷ 6 = 3
= 3 + 3 x 9 – 20 Perform multiplication: 3 x 9 = 27
= 3 + 27 – 20 Perform addition: 3 + 27 = 30
= 30 – 20 Perform subtraction: 30 – 20 = 10
= 10

Assessment 1
Fill in the box with the missing number. Write your answers on your answer sheet.

Assessment 2
Evaluate the following expressions. Write your answers on your answer sheet.

1. 28 + 9 x 5 5. 15 ÷ 5 + 4 x 9

2. 80 - 24 ÷ 3 6. 25 – 12 ÷ 3 +10

3. 45 + 68 – 27 7. 50 + 2 x 9 – 21
4. 28 ÷ 4 x 12 8. 60 + 48 ÷ 6 x 3

9. 12 – 3 + 18 ÷ 6 x 3 12. 63 ÷ 7 + 5 x 2 – 6

10. 15 ÷ 5 + 4 x 3 – 10 13. 10 x 10 + 72 ÷ 9 x 3

11. 60 ÷ 6 – 8 + 15 x 2 14. 11 + 20 ÷ 5 + 7 x 9 – 37

Assessment 3
Write the operation symbols (+, -, x, ÷) on the space provided to make the
statement true.

1. 12 ___ 4 ___ 5 = 32 4. 9 ___ 6 ___ 8 ___ 2 = 7

2. 48 ___ 8 ___ 6 = 36 5. 6 ___ 7 ___ 10 ___ 2 ___ 5 = 42

3. 8 ___ 3 ___ 2 ___ 7 = 9

Lesson 2: Performing Two or More Operations on Whole Numbers with

Exponents and Grouping Symbols

We follow the GEMDAS rule when performing two or more operations with
exponents and grouping symbols. GEMDAS stands for Grouping symbols,
Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.

To use this rule, just remember:

1. Perform the operations inside the grouping symbols first.
2. Find the value of the number in exponential notation.
3. Multiply or divide as you go from left to right.
4. Add or subtract as you go from left to right.

Example1
Let us evaluate the expression (4 x 10) + 102 ÷ 5.
Example 2
3 + [(7 x 4) – 6]

Example 3
8 x 53 – 9 ÷ 3 + 2
Assessment 4
Match the expression on Column A with the answer on Column B. Write the letter of
the correct answer on your answer sheet.

Column A Column B
1) 10 – 3 + 7 x (24 ÷ 3) A. 84
2) (13 – 5) x 3 + 7 – 8 B. 23
3) 5 x 4 + (12 + 22) – 30 ÷ 3 C. 21
4) 8 x 33 + 63 ÷ 9 – 6 D. 217
5) 5 x 4 + (16 ÷ 4) – 3 E. 26
F. 63
