Coding with Scratch

Math Standard: MGSE8.EE.1 Use properties of integer exponents,


including zero and negative exponents to evaluate and simplify
numerical expressions containing exponents. Able to derive and explain
the properties of exponents.

STEM Standard: Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking- Math &


Technology

Lesson Objective: Students will create a story line in Scratch about what they
have learned with “Laws of Exponents”. They will show mastery of standards by
including the necessary items in their activity.
Duration of lesson: 5 days
Materials: Student laptop, Interactive notebook, exponents foldable

Work Session: Enrichment Lesson with Exponents
Students will use Scratch “coding program website” to create a story line
explaining the laws of Exponents.

Project Expectation:
 Must have at least two sprites
 Background scenery (Must have 2)
 Must have at least one movement of sprites
 Must use at least two exponent rules
 Must include an example of a problem and solve it.
 Must define what does simplifying your final answer mean.
