EFFECT OF DRONES IN LOGISTICS SECTOR

AND SUPPLY CHAIN INDUSTRY

Technology in Logistics and Supply Chain Industrial processes are changing

all around the world as a result of some of the most rapid technology-to-
market transformations anyone has ever witnessed. In order to stay ahead
of the competition, many companies are turning to automation by
implementing autonomous technology. Drones, which were originally
utilised for military purposes, are now used by a variety of industries,
including the logistics sector in warehousing, last mail Delivery,
transportation and cargo survey.

As more businesses prioritise efficiency in each phase of the supply chain

process, the drone market is projected to make waves in supply chain
operations. Drone-based deliveries will soon be realistic, with drone
technology for transportation and logistics predicted to reach $20 billion
within the next ten years.

Role of Drones in Warehouse

In the area of inventory management, drones can be used for the following
tasks: inventory audit, inventory management, cycle counting, item search,
buffer stock maintenance, and stock taking. Stock taking is the physical
verification of the quantity of items stored in warehouses They walk or drive
to a designated location in the warehouse, scan the barcode of the item,
count the units and move on to the next location following their schedule.
The main objectives of using drones for inventory management are to
increase the inventory accuracy, decrease labour costs, and minimize
dangerous tasks for the workforce.

Role of Drones in Inspection & Surveillance

Drones can be a viable alternative to replace manual inspection and

surveillance operations in warehouse, ICD and CFS. Drones are already used
for inspection in many industries such as construction, petrochemical, oil and
gas, and power generation. Security surveillance of large areas for logistics such
as warehouses and factories.

Role of Drones in Transportation

Easy with the Right Tools : The transportation and logistics environment
has taken to drones in several arenas because of their ability to maneuver
around and above otherwise difficult to reach areas like warehouses and
shipping container ports and terminals. And part of their repertoire includes
multiple ways to communicate and share information.

Role of Drones in Last Mile Delivery

The future of last-mile deliveries revolves around introducing drones into the
supply chain to save time, costs, and resources. Especially for small
packages, it makes more sense to use a drone for delivery which automates
the delivery process and minimizes the costs incurred by transporting goods
over short distances. Last-mile delivery refers to the final stage of a
product’s journey from a warehouse to the customer’s doorstep. Making up
to 28% of the product’s transportation costs, last-mile delivery is the least
efficient part of any logistics operation.

Role of Drones in Cargo Movement

It’s used to locate the stored container in all the stocked in the yard. Xray
system can be installed in the drones to find weather the container is loaded
or is it an empty container. Scanning of pallets inside distribution centres,
allowing the operations team to view inventory stored on the premises as
well as searching for misplaced goods in difficult-to-reach spaces.
