Headline vs Caption - What's the difference?

As nouns the difference between headline and caption


 is that headline is a heading or title of an article while caption is (typography) the
descriptive heading or title of a document or part therof.

As verbs the difference between headline and caption


 is that headline is (entertainment) to have top billing; to be the main attraction
while caption is to add captions to a text or illustration.

A HEADLINE IS a heading in a newspaper for any written material, sometimes for an


illustration, to indicate subject matter, set in larger type than that of the copy and
containing one or more words and lines and often several banks.

A CAPTION IS a short piece of text under a picture in a book, magazine,


or newspaper that describes the picture or explains what the people in it are doing or

saying. A caption is a brief description accompanying an illustration
