1. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The overall NFPS Project objective is to sustain the Qatargas North Field production plateau via an
integrated investment in surface facilities expansion (Drilling/Production Platforms, Riser Platforms,
Pipeline Looping, and associated Brownfield modifications). Additional drill wells are anticipated to be
required by the early 2020’s, followed shortly thereafter by export pipeline (or “trunk line”) looping.
Compression facilities additions are expected further in the future and are not part of this project scope.
The integrated FEED for these project elements is intended to capture the efficiencies and synergies of
concurrently designing like and similar project elements that will be executed in a coordinated EPC
phase. The FEED end products must be of sufficient quality, completeness and detail to support
competitive lump sum tendering for EPC execution with minimal contract change order risk.
Safe execution and high quality work products are base expectations. Beyond that, the FEED must support
a schedule driven project that achieves the shareholders’ production need dates. Secondarily, the project
must be implemented in a manner that minimizes project adverse impacts on existing production operations.
Lastly, the project should be executed in as capital efficient manner as possible while not compromising
schedule.
The FACILITIES shall be designed with a view to ensure that they are fit for their intended purpose as
described in the CONTRACT documents, and shall be safe, reliable, maintainable, accessible, operable and
efficient throughout their required life.
The project scope is comprised of five broad elements as summarized below and described in more detail
in Clause 2.0 of Section 3.0 of CONTRACT.

2. PURPOSE OF DOCUMENT

The purpose of this document is to detail the pre-commissioning methodology relevant to the new intra-field
pipelines belonging to the Looping phase for NFPS project.

The present document is a deliverable of the integrated FEED and will be the base to develop the actual pre-
commissioning operations to be carried-out during EPC stage.

The present document has to be read in conjunction with relevant CONTRACTOR specifications (Ref. 11 and
12).

The methodology is covering the following activities:

 Flooding, Cleaning and Gauging (Caliper Pigging if needed);
 Hydrotesting;
 Intelligent Tool Inspection;
 Dewatering and Conditioning;
 Nitrogen, Purging and Packing.

The items of the Looping phase covered by this document are the following:

 RGE Looping:
o Six (6) new 28-inch cladded intra-field pipelines routed between RP5S-RP7S (n. 2 lines), RP9S-
RP4S (n. 2 lines) and RP10S-RP6S (n. 2 lines). The lines are named PL5S, PL5LS, PL9S, PL9LS,
PL10S and PL10LS respectively. Each line will be equipped with two risers that will be installed with
stalk-on method.
 RL1 Looping:

NOTES:

1) “Temporary PLRs” are to be intended as “Pre-Commissioning PLRs” (CONTRACTOR provided).

These can be placed (on platforms) vertically or horizontally; the first option in the case of congested
area topside preventing positioning of the PLR horizontally. For the second option the bend after riser
needs to be in place. Ref. to Section 8.2 and Figure 4 for more details.

2) Needed temporary isolation valves and flanges to interface with risers to be provided by
CONTRACTOR (ref. Figure 4).

3) Topside piping pre-commissioning/ hydrotest shall be performed separately at the Fabrication Yard
(onshore – covered by a dedicated documentation package). Following pipeline pre-commissioning
the temporary flange interfacing with the temporary isolation valve shall be removed and connection
to topside piping section will be made by means of golden weld/s (ref. to Section 7.4.3 and Figure 4).

Following sketches provide an overview of Pre-Commissioning battery Limits for Intra-field Pipelines (just
horizontal PLR option at Platform is shown for simplicity).

6. BASES OF THE PHILOSOPHY

The following points are at the base of the present pre-commissioning philosophy:
1) Pig traps used during intra-field flowlines pre-commissioning will be CONTRACTOR provided and of
a different concept/design wrt the temporary traps which will be part of the permanent topside
equipment (ref. 6).
In this way the pipeline pre-commissioning operations are not dependent from the availability of the
temporary traps mentioned above (and related topside piping) and any risk of damage to the same
will be avoided.
Permanent mainline valves shall be connected to the intra-field pipeline system at the end of pipeline
pre-commissioning activities, to avoid any possible damage due to debris during flooding and cleaning
operations.
2) For conservativeness it is assumed shortage of space on platforms (as per existing platforms) for the
pre-commissioning spread. Then pre-commissioning spread can be located onboard of a supply
vessel/ cargo barge moored alongside the platform and a flexible hose can be used to interconnect
the spread to the pig traps (this option is shown at Section 7.8).

7. DETAILED PRE-COMMISSIONING OPERATIONAL SEQUENCE

Pre-commissioning activities on the intra-field pipelines part of the Looping phase will be performed by using
the methodology and sequences reported in the following sections.

Pre-commissioning activities will start only if no damages will be detected during post-lay survey.

Summary sketches are reported in Section 7.8.

7.1 INITIAL CONDITIONS

 Pipeline system (pipeline, spools and risers) interconnected and installed empty (at 0 barg).
 Top of risers are connected to temporary valves and PLRs at RPs. There may be the presence of the
permanent bend interfacing top riser and temporary valve (ref. Section 2.1).

7.2 BATTERY LIMITS

 During all pre-commissioning operations the battery limits are from temporary PLRs at RPs (starting
RP) to temporary PLRs at RPs (arrival RP).
 There are no constraints regarding the actual pigging direction. It will be defined at a later stage basing
on EPC CONTRACTOR discretion. Present philosophy is not dependant on pigging direction.

7.3 FLOODING, CLEANING AND GAUGING

7.3.1 PIGGING EXECUTION

At receiver side the PLR shall be set for receipt of pig train.

Pre-commissioning spread will be connected to PLR launcher by means of an interconnecting hose and PLR
and temporary valves will be operated in order to propel the pigs through the pipeline system into the PLR
receiver at the other side.

In the present philosophy it is foreseen to run cleaning and gauging pigs in the same train, then pig velocity
will be controlled between minimum 1.0 m/s and maximum 1.5 m/s, provided that lower velocities are
acceptable during launching/receiving phases.

Pig train will be composed by 4 off pigs at least. In any case alternatives are in principle acceptable subject to
prior CONTRACTOR and COMPANY approval.

Pigs no.1 to no.4 will be launched as per sequence below:

 Pump a lubrication slug of 1000 linear meters of treated seawater ahead of the first pig;

COMPANY DOC NO.: 200-24-PL-DEC-0002 REV: D1 CONTRACTOR DOC NO.: HS0063-ZA-SAI-OL22-F-00003 PAGE: 20 of 38

 Launch Pig no.1 (Hi–Seal Bi-Directional Pig c/w brushes) c/w Pig Tracking System behind lubrication
slug;
 Pump slug of treated seawater behind Pig no.1 – 500 linear meters;
 Launch Pig no.2 (Hi – Seal Bi-Directional Pig);
 Pump slug of treated seawater behind Pig no.2 – 500 linear meters;
 Launch Pig no.3 (Hi–Seal Bi-Directional Pig c/w brushes);
 Pump slug of treated seawater behind Pig no.2 – 500 linear meters;
 Launch Pig no.4 (Hi – Seal Bi-Directional Pig c/w gauge plates) c/w Pig Tracking System;
 Pump treated seawater for 120% of the system volume.

During the pig train run, the flowrate, instantaneous and cumulative volumes of water and chemicals injected
will be monitored and recorded continuously; extra volume (120%) wrt. system volume will be pumped to
ensure pigs arrival.

Upon confirmation of pig train receipt (i.e. via volume pumped, pig tracking equipment and/or pressure change
at pumping side) the PLR launcher will be isolated and the interconnecting hose disconnected.

In case additional pigging runs are required due to not acceptance of previous cleaning and/or gauging
operations, cleaning and gauging runs can be split. In this case following velocity ranges are applicable:

 Cleaning: 0.6 – 1.5 m/s

 Gauging: 1.0 – 2.1 m/s

7.3.2 FLOODING MEDIA

FCG operation is conducted by using filtered and treated seawater (treated with biocide, corrosion inhibitor,
oxygen scavenger and dye). Further details are addressed at Ref. 10 and 11.

7.3.3 PIGS AND PIG TRACKING

Pigs shall have the following main characteristics (further details are addressed at Ref. 11).

 High sealing and bi-directional

 Designed to pass through 3OD bends
 Material of pig body shall be compatible with the internal cladding (limited to the intra-field pipeline
system).
 Pig body shall contain Magnets for debris pick up and for pig tracking. Magnetic pig signallers to be
assembled at Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver.
 Pig body shall be suitable to accommodate tracking transmitter (first and last pig of the train)

 Pig body (first and third pig of the train) shall contain brushes of a material compatible with the internal
cladding (limited to the intra-field pipeline system)
 Pig body shall be equipped with suitable pull in eyes to allow for pig removal when required
 Pig shall be permanently marked with a unique number that shall be clearly visible
 Last pig of the train shall be equipped with 2off gauge plates, located at front and rear of the pig. The
gauge plates shall not cause any damage to the internal cladding of the pipeline system and its
material shall guarantee no contamination of it. For the specific application (UNS N08825) it is
recommended aluminium as gauge plate material (any alternative material is subject to CPY
approval). Sizing of the gauge plates shall be in compliance with ref. 1.

7.3.4 PIGS INSPECTION

After pigs recovery at receiver PLR, gauge plates will be inspected. It shall be noted that gauge plates are
generally acceptable if no deflection of the plate is observed even though the gauge plates show minor
abrasions and “nicks” on the plate edges. On confirmation that the gauge plate are acceptable, hydrotesting
operations can commence.

7.3.5 CALIPER

In case of no acceptance of the gauge plates a caliper pig shall be run as a standalone run.

In that case once Caliper is recovered, data will be downloaded and analyzed. CONTRACTOR, COMPANY
and Verification Authority / 3rd Party (if any) will witness during data downloading and analysis. CONTRACTOR
shall provide preliminary onsite report (onsite) for approval within 48 hours (final report shall subsequently be
issued once all data have been collated and processed).

The cause of gauge plate damage(s) shall be determined and repaired, where necessary, to the approval of
COMPANY. After repair, a new gauging scraper run shall be successfully executed and accepted by
COMPANY.

7.4 HYDROTEST

To minimize number of operations and, in case, the number of transits, the system can be pressurized from
the same side where FCG pigs have been received.

7.4.1 HYDROTESTING EXECUTION

Upon completion of pig recovery and acceptable gauge plate integrity verification / caliper run, temporary PLR
(or suitable pressure cap) will be connected topside.

Interconnecting hose will be connected to the temporary PLR in readiness to start pressurization.

Before hydrotest starts, it shall be confirmed that temporary PLR at the other side is isolated.

A data logger shall be connected to the temporary PLR (pressurization side): the data logger will be used to
monitor and record, at regular intervals, the pressure and temperature trends during the whole test duration.

Pressurization will be carried-out at different velocities and stages as per ref. 1. At the end of the first stage an
air inclusion check is carried out to ensure it is within 0.2%.

Pressurization phase is considered concluded on reaching the defined test pressure plus a margin, to be
defined during next project phase.

On reaching the target pressure, the hydrotesting pump spread is stopped, system isolated and the test
pressure and temperature is monitored and recorded.

Following the stabilization period, the hydrotest is considered completed whenever the acceptance criteria
reported in Ref. 11 are matched within a 24h hold period.

The system may require re-pressurization or depressurization until such time that stabilization is complete.
Additional water added to or removed from the system will be monitored and recorded.

Following successful completion of the hydrotest, including validation of hydrotest results, the system
depressurization is conducted through proper sized orifices. Depressurisation rate does not exceed 2 bar/min.

7.4.2 HYDROTESTING MEDIA

Same as sect. 7.3.2.

7.4.3 PIPING HYDROTEST

Topside piping will be pre-commissioned/ hydrotested separately as per ASME B31.8, then connected to Intra-
field pipeline at the end of pipeline pre-commissioning by means of golden weld.

Supplier of the topside permanent valves (MOVs and SDVs) shall clarify during detail design (EPC phase) the
required open/close status during hydrotest: it shall be reflected into pre-commissioning procedures.

Golden weld to be performed on the Incoloy 825 side of the Topside piping. Ref. to the below sketch.

7.6 DEWATERING AND CONDITIONING

Pipeline systems will be dewatered and MEG conditioned utilizing a pig train as per figure below:

Figure 6 – Pig Train Composition during Dewatering/Conditioning

Treated seawater utilized during Hydrotest can be disposed offshore during De-Watering activities, in
compliance with the environmental regulations of the ESHIA (Ref. 5) and Ministry of the Municipality and
Environmental of Qatar, MME.

Pig train will be composed by 4 off pigs at least. In any case alternatives are in principle acceptable prior to
CONTRACTOR and COMPANY approval.

Dewatering pig velocity will be maintained between minimum 0.3 m/s and maximum 1.5 m/s, provided that
lower velocities are acceptable during launching/receiving phases.

Pigs no.1 to no.4 will be launched as per sequence below:

 Launch Pig no.1 (Hi–Seal Bi-Directional Swabbing Pig) c/w Pig Tracking System behind treated
filtered seawater used for Hydrotest;
 Pump desalination slug of fresh water behind Pig no.1 (volume TBD – by CONTRACTOR during
EPC);
 Launch Pig no.2 (Hi – Seal Bi-Directional Swabbing Pig);
 Pump slug of MEG behind Pig no.2 (volume TBD – by CONTRACTOR during EPC);
 Launch Pig no.3 (Hi – Seal Bi-Directional Swabbing Pig) ;
 Pump slug of MEG behind Pig no.3 (volume TBD – by CONTRACTOR during EPC);
 Launch Pig no.4 (Hi – Seal Bi-Directional Swabbing Pig) c/w Pig Tracking System;
 Pump dried compressed nitrogen air until all pigs arrive in PLR Receiver.

Receipt of each pig will be indicated by calculated volumes of FW/MEG/nitrogen and pressure spikes at the
pumping side and confirmed by pig signaller at the receiving. During receipt phase the nitrogen flowrate can
be stop/ decreased to ease the pig receiving process.

During dewatering and MEG conditioning, the flowrate, instantaneous and cumulative volumes of nitrogen and
fluids injected will be monitored and recorded continuously.

Pig arrival will be monitored in order to provide confirmation on when MEG arrival will occur to allow fluid to
be captured/ sampled to confirm that chemical conditioning has been successful.

MEG will be sampled via calibrated hygrometer set to verify achievement of the required dew point (see details
in Ref.11).

7.6.1 PIGS AND PIG TRACKING

Pigs shall have the following main characteristics (further details are addressed at Ref.11).

 Standard bi-directional dewatering/swabbing pigs

 Equipped with a sufficient number of seals to guarantee an adequate dewatering level
 Designed to pass through 3OD bends
 Material of pig body shall be compatible with the internal cladding of the pipeline system.
 Pig body shall contain Magnets for pig tracking
 Pig body shall be suitable to accommodate tracking transmitter
 Pig body shall be equipped with suitable pull in eyes to allow for pig removal when required
 Pig shall be permanently marked with a unique number that shall be clearly visible

7.7 NITROGEN PURGING AND PACKING

Once conditioning has been confirmed successful by COMPANY representative, nitrogen injection can restart,
if needed, at full speed and will cease once a continuous reading of oxygen content lower than, or equal to,
2% v/v will be achieved at the outlet.

Then receiving side will be isolated in order to perform final packing of the pipeline system.

Packing pressure at the end of Intra-field pipeline pre-commissioning activities (before connection with Topside
permanent facilities) shall be in no case lower than 7.0 barg.

Packing pressure after connection with Topside permanent facilities will be met with an internal pressure
suitable for gas-in (ref.38, 39, 50 and 51) and in no case shall be lower than 7.0 barg.

During gas-in the nitrogen inventory can be sent to flare (ref.48 and 49).
