INTRODUCTION:
Jubilant Life Sciences Limited is an integrated global pharmaceutical and
life sciences company engaged in Pharmaceuticals, Life Science Ingredients and
Other businesses including Drug Discovery & Development Solutions and India
Branded Pharmaceuticals. The Pharmaceuticals segment, through its wholly
owned subsidiary Jubilant Pharma Limited, is engaged in manufacturing and
supply of APIs, Solid Dosage Formulations, Radiopharmaceuticals, Allergy
Therapy Products and Contract Manufacturing of Sterile Injectables and Non-
sterile products through 6 USFDA approved manufacturing facilities in the US,
Canada and India and a network of over 50 radio-pharmacies in the US.
The Life Science Ingredients segment, is engaged in Specialty
Intermediates, Nutritional Products and Life Science Chemicals through 5
manufacturing facilities in India. The Drug Discovery & Development Solutions
business, provides proprietary in-house innovation & collaborative research
and partnership for out-licensing through 2 world class research centers in
India. Jubilant Life Sciences Limited has a team of around 8,000 multicultural
people across the globe and is committed to deliver value to its customers
across over 100 countries. The Company is well recognized as a ‘Partner of
Choice’ by leading pharmaceuticals and life sciences companies globally.
The CSR & Sustainability Committee has accorded its approval to
implement its CSR activities through the Jubilant Bhartia Foundation. The social
initiatives are implemented in the realms of education, health and livelihood.

The Jubilant Bhartia Foundation (JBF) is a not-for-profit organization
established in 2007 by the Jubilant Bhartia Group. The foundation provides
consultation to Jubilant as well as other companies in the implementation of
their CSR programmes (as per CSR mandate of Indian Companies Act, 2013).
JBF’s activities are driven towards channelizing resources for bringing
measurable social change in society and indicative of our ‘Caring, Sharing,
Growing’ promise. The projects implemented by JBF have a thrust on primary
education, basic healthcare and skill development for employability and self-
sustenance. The programmes are backed by a need assessment study before
conception and regular monitoring and impact appraisal, once they are put
into action.
OBJECTIVES:

ANALYSIS:
Global pharmaceutical company Jubilant Life Sciences has spent Rs 4.4
Crore on its various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the financial
year 2019-20.
The company which made record profit with improvement in margins
led by growth in the Pharmaceuticals and Drug Discovery & Development
Solutions segments in the year 2019-20, spent 16 % more on its CSR activities
as compared to the previous year. The company’s total profit for the year was
Rs 3,21.10 Crore.
The average net profit of the company for the last three financial years
was Rs 221.88 Crore. Accordingly, the prescribed CSR budget for the company,
calculated as 2% of the amount, was Rs 4.4 crore. Thus, the company spent
100% of the prescribed CSR amount on activities related to the social sector.
The company officials say that the "Jubilant as a responsible corporate
works in the line of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a strong focus
on social performance indicated in the CSR project of the organisation."
Last year also, the company had met 100% CSR obligation by spending
around Rs 3.8 Crore.

CSR IMPLEMENTATION THROUGH 4-P MODEL


The company’s all CSR initiatives were conceptualised and implemented
through Jubilant Bhartia Foundation (JBF), the social wing of Jubilant Bhartia
Group. The JBL was established in 2007 as a not-for-profit organisation and its
works on 4P model (Public-Private-People-Partnership) for empowering
communities.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Jubilant is the commitment of
businesses to contribute to sustainable economic development by working
with the employees, their families, the local community and the society at
large to improve their lives in ways that are good for business and for its
development, the company says.
During the year 2019-20, the company focused on four major areas below:
• Project Arogya and Swasthya Prahari: Improving health indices through
innovative services and promoting health seeking behaviour
• Project Muskaan: Universalising elementary education and improving
quality parameters for primary education through community
involvement
• Nayee Disha: Enhancing employability through vocational training
• Rural Development: Local Area Development.
All the CSR activities were undertaken in the states of Uttar Pradesh,
Maharashtra and Gujarat.

JUBILANT LIFE SCIENCES CSR: WHERE THE CSR MONEY WAS SPENT?
As per the company’s financial report it successfully executed all the planned
CSR projects by spending the money outlay for each of the CSR projects.

FINDINGS & CONCLUSION:
Jubilant Life Sciences Limited is an integrated global pharmaceutical and
life sciences company engaged in Pharmaceuticals, Life Science Ingredients and
Other businesses including Drug Discovery Solutions and India Branded
Pharmaceuticals.
The CSR activities at Jubilant Life Sciences are led by non-executive
independent director Ashok Misra who is designated as the Chairman -
Sustainability & CSR Committee at the company.
JBF’s activities are driven towards channelizing resources for bringing
measurable social change in society and indicative of our ‘Caring, Sharing,
Growing’ promise. The projects implemented by JBF have a thrust on primary
education, basic healthcare and skill development for employability and self-
sustenance.
