Question 1 (Answer any three): [2X3=6]

i. A black die and a red die are rolled, find the probability of obtaining a sum greater than 9, given
that the black die results in a 5.
ii. A bag contains 4 white and 3 black balls, four balls are successively drawn out without replacement.
Find the probability that they are alternately of different colours.
iii. A random variable X has the following probability distribution:
X 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
P(X) a 4a 3a 7a 8a 10a 6a 9a
a) Find the value of a.
b) Find P(X>4).
35
iv. The sum of mean and variance of a binomial distribution is 16 for 5 trials. Find the distribution.
v. A committee of 4 persons has to be cosen from 8boys and 6 girls, consisting of at least one girl. Find
the probability that the committee consists of more girls than boys.

Question 2 (Any two) [4X2=8]

i. Three persons A,B,C throw a die in succession order till one of them gets ‘six’ and wins the game. If
A starts the game , find their respective probabilities of winning.
ii. An insurance company insure 2000 scooter drivers, 4000 car drivers, 6000 truck drivers. The
probabilities of an accident involving a scooter driver, car driver and a truck driver is 0.01,0.03 and
0.15 respectively. One of the insured person meets with an accident. What is the probability that he
is a scooter driver?
iii. A die is tossed twice. Getting a number greater than 4 is considered a success. Find the mean and
the variance of the probability distribution of the number of success.

Question 3 : [1X6=6]

i. There are two bags. One bag contains 4 white and 2 black balls. Second bag contains 5 white and 4
black balls. Two balls are transferred from the first bag to second bag. Then one ball is taken from
the second bag. Find the probability that it is white.

Question 4 [3X2=6]

i. The total cost function for a production and marketing activity is given by, 𝐶(𝑥) = 4 𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 + 27.
Find the level of output for which MC=AC.
ii. Find the total and average cost functions if MC=4 − 2𝑥 + 𝑥 2 , and the fixed cost is ₹100.
iii. Out of the two regression line 𝑥 + 2𝑦 − 5 = 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 2𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 8 find the regression line of x on y.

Question 5 (Any one): [1X4=4]

𝑥2
i. A radio manufacturer produces x sets per week at a total cost of ₹(25 + 3𝑥 + 100). The demand of
his product is 𝑥 = 75 − 3𝑝, where p is the price per set. Show that the maximum revenue is
obtained when about 30 sets are produce per week. What is the monopoly price?
𝑎𝑏

𝜎𝑦 = 4 , then find the value of mean of x, mean of y, 𝜎𝑦 and r.

Question 7 [6]

acid and type 2 fertilizer which contains of 5% nitrogen and 10% phosphoric acid. After testing the
soil condition he finds that he needs at least 14 kg of nitrogen and 14kg of phosphoric acid for his
crop.if the type 1 fertilizer costs 60 paise per kg and type 2 fertilizer costs 40 pise per kg. determine
how many kilogram of each fertilizer should be used so that nutrient requirement are met at a
minimum cost. What is the minimum cost?
