Triple bottom line supply chain sustainability is a measure of sustainability that includes
social, environmental and financial performance measures people, planet and profit and helps
ensure that there is a long- term supply of people, natural resources and profit.
The Triple Bottom Line approach to sustainability takes the view that the smaller impact your
business has on the environment and the fewer natural resources you consume, the longer and
more successful your business will be.
The appeal of a sustainable supply chain goes beyond just being eco-friendly. Investing in
sustainability sets your business apart from the competition. It also makes your operations
more likely to thrive long-term in spite of environmental crises and social disturbance.

The Triple Bottom Line approach provides a powerful framework with which to achieve
supply chain sustainability. It expands the definition of business performance to include
financial, environmental, and social performance.

The Triple Bottom Line approach is particularly effective because it highlights the synergistic
relationship between profit, environmental impact, and social impact. Therefore, the TBL
strategy is a great option for leaders looking to make their supply chains more sustainable
without sacrificing profitability.

Green supply chain encompasses every level of the supply chain, from product concept to
distribution. Core strategies include closed-loop manufacturing, reduction of fuel emissions,
and ethical sourcing. The effort enables manufacturers to save money on energy-intensive
production processes, waste disposal and much more. While the incentives are enough for
most to make the switch, some businesses employ GSCM solely for its environmental
benefits. A world leeched of its resources won't turn a profit for anyone nor can it sustain life.
Responsible product development protects the earth by reducing ecological strain.

Nestle helping create a future in Pakistan where cleverly designed packaging, innovative new
materials, better recycling infrastructure and reusable or refillable packaging can prevent
waste from contaminating the land and oceans. Reaching this goal requires participation from
all levels of society. We are proud to be a catalyst for that change, inspiring a future where
people and partners everywhere rethink how they engage with packaging.

Nestle Pakistan collaborating with industrial partners to develop new packaging materials and
solutions. For example, Nestle Pakistan are well on their way to eliminating all plastic straws
from their products, using paper as an alternative material. The innovation required Nestlé to
develop an entirely new supply chain to meet a key technical challenge: Bendable paper
straws that are durable enough for consumers, while meeting rapid dissolvability criteria for
paper recycling.

Across their product portfolio, they are evaluating the materials they use and testing
alternatives, like using recyclable paper for packaging their Maggi cubes in Pakistan, instead
of packaging that contains aluminum. They have also been able to find paper alternatives to
plastic and aluminum.

With growing awareness of environmental issues and global warming, sustainability on the
supply chain has been a concern for the society. Green Supply Chain & Production
Management is the integration of environmental-friendly concept to every product
manufacturing stage, including material sourcing, selection, manufacturing process, delivery
of final product, as well as end-of-life management of the product after its useful life.
The increase in competition among companies has generated a greater concern over cost,
without interfering in the quality requirements established by customers. Integration of the
various links of the supply chain is necessary in order to make it competitive. In the process
of cost reduction in the supply chain, the adoption of lean manufacturing practices enables
the elimination of waste and the processes become more reliable; these characteristics form
the Lean Supply Chain Management. Another factor of great importance for the success of
supply chains is the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices, known as Green
Supply Chain Management. In other words, to produce and distribute products with the least
environmental impact possible, covering efforts to reduce the consumption of water, energy
and emission of pollutants, and practices related to waste recovery and return of materials for
reuse in the supply chain.
