Technology has become a necessity for everyone. It plays an important role in our day to day
life. Technology has increased rapidly in the past few years. From old to young, we see everyone using
technology. It might be a smartphones, television, laptops, and so on. Nowadays, gadgets like
smartphones and tablets are popular to everyone, specifically teenagers. Gadget becomes one of the
most convenient sources for academic information. As for the reason, it’s versatile, time-saving, helps in
developing skills and so on. However, gadget also has negative effects to the ones utilizing it such as
increases aggression, develops sleeping disorder, obesity and so on. (Monica et al., 2021)

Gadgets make it possible to complete any academic task quickly. Students get immediate access to
information sources that assist them in completing their assignments. They are immensely motivated by
such speed and production. Students take an active role in the learning process and can enhance a wide
range of learning skills. Every device has many features to help you maintain whatever abilities you
require. Aside from that, students work together. They are separated into groups and are linked through
technology. This ensures that activities are completed faster and that communicative and interpersonal
skills are enhanced. Meanwhile, the widespread use of digital gadgets has resulted in a number of issues
and disadvantages. Many pupils develop a dependency on their digital devices when they are constantly
using them. As a result, they have ripped society apart, and many of them are unable to communicate
effectively with people in the real world. Many of them are easily distracted by technology, and many of
them fail to complete learning assignments as a result. They become overly reliant on technology and
are unable to execute even the most basic tasks without assistance. (New launches, 2019)

Cristina Lopez Antigo and Marie Fe D. De Guzman conducted a study at Zone 1, Division of

Zambales. The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of electronic gadgets on family
relationship, health conditions, study habits and students’ academic performance. The respondents of
the study are selected High School Students of Zone 1, Division of Zambales, Philippines. Based on the
result of the study, electronic gadget usage affects students’ family relationship and it seldom affects the
students’ health conditions and study habits. The study also reveals that there is no significant
difference on the effects on the use of electronic gadgets in terms of family relationships and study
habits when attributed to students’ age, sex and grade level. However, there is significant difference on
the effects on the use of electronic gadgets in terms of health conditions when attributed to students’
grade level. Moreover, it was also found that there is negligible relationship between the academic
performance and the level of effects on the use of electronic gadgets as to family relationships, health
and study habits.

According to the study of Padernal (2016), although the usage of technological products and systems
has numerous positive effects, they are transient and have long-term detrimental consequences for
humans. Youth are stronger in technical skills as a result of internet activities, but they are weaker in
real-life practical abilities. It transports the young ladies away from reality, allowing them to immerse
themselves in their own world. Youth are avoiding some outdoor activities with friends and family due
to the amount of time they spend on their smartphones. Indulging in violent games may cause them to
become more violent in their minds. The more they use the gadgets, the more obsessed they become
with them, which may cause them to lose focus on their studies.

According to (Othman et al., 2020)

According to the researchers of a study that was conducted in an international university at Malaysia,
the majority of students who spend their time more than 6 hours using electronic devices would tend to
have a high level of dependency on gadgets, low academic performance, and good health. As for this
reason, the healthcare providers should come up of effective interventions, such as introducing an
application on an electronic device for academic purposes and health tracking, to address these issues,
allowing students to strike a balance between academic achievement and health status, thereby
improving wellness and health among the students.

SKSSKKS

A gadget is a small tool or device with a specific useful purpose and function. Gadgets tend to be more
unusual or cleverly designed than normal technology. In today’s life, tasks are maximized with the use of
modern gadgets. It is easier to accomplish daily tasks and people are also able to do work with
efficiency. “One cannot even dare to imagine life without cell phones, laptops, tablets, iPads and so on”
(Tech Crates, 2012). Today’s gadgets are one of the ways to make life more comfortable and easier. Shy
(2010) says that “no one can deny the fact that gadgets have not only simplified the lives of people but
also made them more comfortable and luxurious”. Indeed, these gadgets really made a huge impact in
people’s lives and became part of it. Students who spend several hours each day staring into mobile
phones or smartphones tend to change their sleeping habits and stay up late to use the devices.

Technology users are moving towards being more mobile, and teacher and students are a significant
part of that trend. On the impact of children’s intellectual development, and people are relying mainly
on these resources from information, education, and entertainment to social interaction. The same are
shaping social attitude in dealing with each other. The reformed digital cultures and multi resources of
communications have severe effects on human beings especially on children, who have the immediate
capacity of learning.
