INTRODUCTION
Technology plays vital role in our daily lives. These include electronic games, home computers,
handheld devices, and different type of gadgets. Gadgets are popular in children and as likely in
students. The use of gadgets in students is not only used as a means of communication but there
are some students who often play gadgets instead of studying. According to Sundus M*(2017)
“They spend most of their time in playing online games, watching video and browsing different
websites and don’t pay attention to their education.”. But there are also have an positive impact of
using gadget to the students. They use it in searching, making a report, etch. The more they use
the gadget, the more ideas and innovations they can come up with.
According to Jim Collison(2023) “The use of gadgets such as tablets, laptops, and smartphones
has revolutionized the way we learn and has made the process of researching and completing
homework much easier and more efficient.” With so much information and help online, no student
is foreign to searching for their respective fields and getting proficient in them. With increasing
advances in technology, the more students use it, the more they will be better equally to handle the
technicalities that they will face in their practical lives after their studies.
This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the positive and negative impacts of
gadgets on students. While gadgets offer numerous benefits such as easy access to information,
improved communication, and enhanced productivity, they also pose challenges in terms of
distraction, health consequences, and potential limitations on critical thinking skills. By
understanding these impacts, educators, parents, and policymakers can work together to establish
guidelines and strategies that maximize the positive effects while mitigating the negative aspects of
gadget use among students. The purpose of this study is to describes the positive and negative
impact of gadgets on students.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY


Through the years technology has been evolving increasingly, from flip phones to smartphones to
watches used as phones, type writers to loptops to touch screen loptop and radio to basic
television to big screen to flat screen tv and on to smart screen. In today’s world, the internet is
highly influential, and is filled with a plethora of information about many things. For a long time,
phones and the internet have become very problematic because of the lack communication.
Because technology may have a negative effect, it can lead to an overload from the media, to
phones hindering writing skills and online communication can affect face to face communication.
Excess use of electronic gadgets can lead to children spending less time outdoors and limiting their
social interaction. Also it may lead to poor concentration in studies and lack of interest in day-to-
day activities. The dependency of people on these technological gadgets and services provided by
these has reached at such level that, without these, they can’t think a step forward in the direction of
their growth. The degree of dependency is leading to addiction of the tech-devices and services.
Youth is the most vulnerable group among the population to be addicted to technology(Hush Lee,
Jan 26,2018). A negative effect of this gadgets on students can be the fact that they can become
obsessive and the student scan neglect everything else, like their social life, their family and
friends. It is not a bad thing to have a computer, but it is a bad thing to spend all your life focusing
in gadget.
Most gadgets have positive effects because they enable us to do things faster and easier and they
are also good when it comes to learning new things and, let’s face it, they make our life a lot easier.
Electronic gadgets are beneficial in many ways to students. Electronic devices are a boon for
students who do a lot of research online, access online journals, books, or magazines, and attend
virtual classrooms as part of their academic activities. Also may help to enhance speaking,
listening, and creative skills. Students are able to understand concepts better by using learning
apps without any assistance. Technology is the technical means people use to improve their
surroundings. People use technology to improve their ability to do work. “Technology is a major
catalyst for increasing learning”(isernhagen,1999, 30). A number of new technologies are emerging
to support and enhance learning in our schools.” Many of these technologies are not used to
replace traditional teaching methods, but instead used as simple methodologies to enhance
student learning”(Riley, Beard and Strain, 47).This research will explore more about the positive
and the negative effects of excessive use of gadgets especially in Grade 10 Mt. Mayon students of
Calumpang National High School SY22-23.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will serve as the basic reference of information regarding the significance of the Impact
of using gadget to the academic performance of the students. The result of the study will benefit
the following:

STUDENT. This study will help students to know more the bad and good effect of using gadgets
and it's impact to their performance at school.

PARENTS. This study will help parents to be aware on how long they must let their children used
gadgets.

TEACHER. This study will beneficial to the teacher as it provides information that will help for them
to better facilitate their classroom especially when using gadgets in to their teaching.

FUTURE RESEARCHER. The data gathered in the study can serve as source of information to
further improve their study

SCOPE AND LIMITATION


This study aims to know how does gadget effect on academic performance. This study will be
done with survey question. The study should be Grade 10 Mt. Mayon in Calumpang National High
School.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
IMPACT. Effect of this study to the students, teacher, and parents.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. is the measure of a student's achievement in a particular subject or
area of study. It is typically measured by grades, test scores, and other assessments.
STUDY HABIT. is a regular and consistent way of studying that helps a student to learn more
effectively and efficiently. Good study habits can help students to stay organized, focused, and
motivated
ACADEMIC INTEREST. is a student's curiosity and passion for learning about a particular subject
or topic. It is a driving force that motivates them to learn more, explore new ideas, and take on
challenges. Academic interest for me it is giving and preparing you a background what you want to
pursue in your college
TIME MANAGEMENT. is the process of planning and controlling how one spends their time. It is a
skill that can be learned and improved with practice.
