The problem and its scope

Rationale of the study

Gadgets are the some prevalent things people have nowadays. A

gadget is a small tools such as a machine that has a particular function. This

device makes our lives easier. They play crucial role in the typical persons daily

life and we have grown so accustomed to them that we can't picture completing

our regular tasks without them. However today’s generation many student have

become addicted because of excessive use of gadgets. Excessive use of gadget

has numerous negative effects on children among them are stress,

addiction ,depression, and emotional problem, cognitive and moral development

disorder. Over use of gadgets can lead any students to not be focused in their

academic performance. Many school students who own electronic gadget spend

most of thier time on it. As a result, the aspect of academic achievement is

affected as they are too dependent on electronic gadget. As cited by Prac Clin

Invest 2(2), 56 - 60,2020 majority of students who spent more time on

achievement. It means that addiction of gadgets makes students can’t focus.

Their minds are fully filled on gadgets, that makes them forgets their academic

and takes it for granted.

We all know that excessive use of gadgets have negative effects to every

students. However ,these is also aa positive on it a.According to Sukkur IBA

Jouenal of computing and Mathematical Sciences 6(1),79-90, 2022 that the use

of gadgets has positive effect in every student learning capabilities and ultimately

contributiong to their academic performance. Using of gadget is also beneficial to

student especially to every academic task’s, it helps to make it done quickly and

easier. .In Second with Kennets Ron and Bantillo,Mary and Magasalo,Noli John

gadgets,to every student in their Academic Achievements.

Theoretical and Conceptual Background of the Study

The theory discussed in this study showed how technology and gadgets

are one of the effective way to heighten the academic performances. The

Technology

Acceptance Model (TAM) is an information systems theory that models how

users come to accept and use a technology. The model suggests that when

users are presented with a new technology, a number of factors influence their

decision about how and when they will use it. These factors are behavioural

intentions, attitude and perceived usefulness of the system, perceived ease of

use of the system, individual intention and facilitating or organization condition.

According to Davis, Perceived usefulness (PU) element as defined above is

relevant to the study because undergraduates believe that using computer

system connected them to local database or Internet. Phones and other

electronic devices to search for information electronically enhance their academic

activities than the traditional ways. That is students can read and search for

information to do assignment and research faster with the use of technology.

Perceived ease-of-use (PEOU) is another element in the theory that is

relevant to the study. The ability of students to accept and use electronic

machine devices will ease their usefulness of digital Information. Resources

(DIRs) and learning becomes easier to them as well as influences their academic

activities in their daily life. That is, efforts to search information in traditional ways
are reduced automatically with the use of technology. The researcher adopted

this theory because of its relationship to the problem under investigation.

The Regulated Use of Mobile Phones and Electronic Gadgets in School Act

is an act that "shall promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual,

intellectual, and social being" (Article II, Section 13). It also mandates the state to

"[e] stablish, maintain, and support a complete, adequate, and integrated system

of education relevant to the needs of the people and society" (Article XIV, Section

2[1]). It means that education plays a significant role in our nation's development

especially students. The declaration of this act is to make everyone's life easier

and efficient especially students as it has a lot of benefits that brought about by

the advancement of technology. This act punctuate about how the technology

and gadgets give importance to every student.

Descriptive method is applied in this study by regulating a survey in

gathering the information needed for the study in which research questioners are

distributed to the Senior High School students. In this study, survey was

administrated by the researchers to determine how excessive use of gadgets

affects students especially Senior High School students in their academic

achievements. Therefore, in collecting data it should be analyzed by the

researchers. The information of the study is well elucidate to determine the result

of the study that was made by the researchers to achieve the target of the study

that will be propose. Moreover, frequency and percentage were used in order to

determine the frequency and percentage of the data gathering from the

respondents.
The result of the research study aim to help the students determined an

effective output. Certainly, the distribution of the small paper questioners

presenting the pros and cons, to students which where they are more capable

either smartphones or computers and presenting the questions what is the

effects to their life. It will be a great help to the students in having their desired

great and successful academic achievements.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES AND LITERATURE

A rapid progress of technologies raises the question of its impact on the

human being. The psychological consequences of the use of technologies are

excessive or problem use. Based on the phenomenon of excessive use of

gadgets, gadgets could be the object of addiction for adolescents especially

students.

It is thus inferred that excessive screen time of the children can cause

rather discrepancies in their behaviour (Sebastian & Martzog, 2021; Liu et al.,

2021). Utmost care is needed to monitor the children or students digital gadget

usage beyond the necessary learning and entertainment purposes to reduce the

chances of falling to the screen dependency disorders related issues.

Mobile phones have transformed communication and connectivity among

members of the public, students in particular, and that these objects have

become indispensable in this contemporary era (JAMALUDDIN ABD RASHID,

AHLAM ABDUL AZIZ, et.al). Mobile phone addiction has become a deterrent in

student learning as teenagers may focus totally on their mobile phones to a point

that they become dependent on them. In turn, dependence on mobile phones in

their daily lives may affect teen academic performance. It show's that the more

the students use their mobile phones, the more it will affect their academic

performance. In other words, addiction to mobile phones will affect the student’s
academic performance. Thus, student attention may divert away from their

academics if they have high addiction to their mobile phones.

Smartphone addiction risk was positively related to perceived stress, but

the latter was negatively related to satisfaction with life (Maya Samaha, Nazir S

Hawi). It means that smartphone addiction risk was negatively related to

academic performance, but the latter was positively related to satisfaction with

life.

The social networking addiction of the students was at moderate level and

the male students had a higher level of addiction compared to the female

students (Seyyed Mohsen Azizi, Ali Soroush, Alireza Khatony). There was a

negative and significant relationship between the overall use of social networks

and academic performance of students. Therefore, it is imperative that the

university authorities take interventional steps to help students who are

dependent on these networks and, through workshops, inform them about the

negative consequences of addiction to social networks.

According to Yasser Alghamdi, although technology through media and

electronic gadgets are able to help children to gain vast amounts of knowledge,

taught them how to be independent and has given them access to educational

resources; there are some negative influences that are accompanied with the

positive ones which should not be neglected. It means introducing technology to

children can have adverse effects in their personal lives, their relationships with
others, and their health in the future. Also, excessive use of gadgets can lead

children to be more knowledgeable that turns their academic achievements be in

a good term.

CHAPTER III
