Sarah: I’m fine, thanks. How are you doing today?
Fred: I’m doing fine. People do a bunch of different activities in their free time. Today
we’re going to talk about the top three favorite free time activities in England. Please Sarah,
tell us about that; what do you think are the top three free time activities in England?
Sarah: The top three activities? I would say watching or playing football is one. Going to
the movies could be number 2. And the third could be socializing or drinking with friends.
Fred: All right, so let’s talk about the first one that is playing or watching football. Tell us
about that.

Sarah: OK, people love to watch football, especially on TV, in the pub or even at an actual
football match. Football is very important to people in England; it’s kind of like a religion.
People love to watch football. They also like playing football, usually on weekends, maybe
on Saturdays or Sundays. So, football is quite important.
Fred: OK, so now let’s talk about the second one. Sarah, can you please remind us of the
second one?
Sarah: The second one was going to the movies.
Fred: OK, tell us about that.
Sarah: People in England like to go to the cinema to watch movies because it’s something
very common that families do or friends do, usually on weekends also. So, going to the
movies is quite an important part of social life. In England people love to watch the latest
movies that come out of Hollywood and spend time with their friends.
Fred: The third activity that you mentioned is socializing or drinking. Can you please
elaborate on that?
Sarah: Yes, socializing and drinking is actually quite a big part of British culture and free
time activities because most people will go out on Friday nights and Saturday nights to the
local pub with friends or even sometimes with family. So, it’s a place where people get
together and socialize and do a lot of drinking. We like to drink beer and we drink a lot of it
on weekends, so it’s actually a huge part of our free time activities; after people have been
working all week, they like to go drinking to relax.
Fred: OK Sarah, thank you!
