Project Description
Background and Motivation
The Philippines, with many islands, have a growing trend of population and
under-develop infrastructure. It is not a secret that the Philippines has one of
the highest electricity prices in the whole of Asia. The major problem of energy
inef ciency in the country is the electricity supply and demand. The 16 million
population out of 100 million people can still not experience electricity
connection in the electricity grid in the Philippines. As the demand increases,
the supply of electricity continues to fall short. For rural areas, the electricity
access rate is only an average of 88% and 75% in Mindanao. This is due to the
over-reliance on fuel imports. The Philippines is heavily dependent on coal for
power supply. However, the reserve margin is low.
The cost of energy will still rise once the carbon-based resources come to a
depletion. For this reason, it is also understood that the cost of wastewater
treatment is becoming unsustainable both on economic and environmental
grounds. In treatment facilities, the carbon footprint from fossil sources will
increase, adding to the climate change struggles.
It is believed that using many sustainable power sources will improve the
country's energy system and environmental conditions. Innovated microbial
fuel cell batteries will harvest electricity from wastewater to provide electric
power to infrastructures and homes.
This project hopes to improve the energy system and environmental condition
using wastewater MFC batteries.
Project Goal
Our project goal is to innovate a microbial fuel cell battery that will utilize
wastewater. This will harvest the electricity from the microorganism found in
wastewater to create a sustainable power source.
Project Bene ts
The following are the advantages of innovated MFC battery.
The MFC battery can generate electricity in 10 households per community.
The MFC battery can utilize the 120 billion gallons of wastewater from
wastewater treatment facilities per day.
The MFC battery will generate ten kVA on average per day for every three years
before the complete battery renewal.

Conclusion
Energy inef ciency is still a signi cant problem in the Third World countries like
the Philippines. There is a lack of supply and demand in the power industry due
to the exponential growth trend of the population in the country. The proposed
solution for this problem is the construction of an innovative MFC battery that
will use renewable wastewater. This will lessen the dependence on fuel
resources. In return, MFC will provide clean energy and inexpensive electricity.
The project would like to start early. As a company with an outstanding
