Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the MAPEH-ARTS Grade 9 Module 1 on (Western Classical Art Tradi-


tions) This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educa-

tors from Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge
Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partner-
ship with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor,
HonorableVico Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12
Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while over-
coming their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner
is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and

EXPECTATION

In this module, the learner demonstrated understanding of salient fea-


tures of Western music and the arts from different historical periods,
through appreciation ,analysis, and performance for self develop-
ment, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity, and the
expansion of one’s world vision.

PRE-HISTORIC ART – are art produced in pre historical cultures or era includes

all human existence before the emergence of writing . Their art is of interest

not only by historians but also to archaeologist and anthropologist

understanding of early human life and culture. The animal and human figures
were partly drawn, partly cut in the rock .It was found on the wall of a Cave in

Lascaux, France.

Sculptures of Pre

Materials used in sculptures vary according to region and locality.

Archeologists believed that their sculpture is a result of natural erosion and not

of human artistry.

Man has developed a form of Architecture based on Megaliths ( a big rock)

from the Greek word lithos (stone) and megas (big) This architecture is made

of huge stone blocks which were probably intended for burial.

Art form Description
Egyptian architecture developed because of the early

growth of Egypt’s urban culture .


Architecture
The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt are among the most famous

pieces of architecture in the world.

Egyptian paintings show mythological representations

and scenes of the everyday activities of the Egyptians,

Painting such as hunting ,fishing, farming or banqueting.

These kinds of paintings were first found on the walls of the

pharaohs’ tombs more than 5,000 years ago .

Egyptian Sculpture includes Statues or figures representing

Kings (Pharaohs), armies, servants and various animals. The

portrait layout. Use only color scheme black and brown.

out using charcoal pencil.


WRAP–UP

In the history of art, prehistoric art is all art produced in pre historical cultures

beginning somewhere in very late geological history. The characteristics of

Egyptian art are a combination of geometric regularity and keen observation of

nature. Egyptian paintings and sculptures were traditionally placed in tombs

because of the ancient belief that these assisted the soul in the afterlife.

VALUING

Scientists long assumed that the deadly disease began infecting humans just

before the earliest epidemic is the Justinianic Plague.


What is the difference between a Plague and Epidemic?
Plague- a disease that affects humans or mammals. It is caused by bacterium.
Epidemic- widespread of infectious disease in a community or nations.
