What is Home-based Learning (HBL)?

What is Home‐based Learning?
‐ Home‐based Learning (HBL) refers to learning that 
occurs away from campus, e.g., from home. It may 
be activated during events such as a pandemic, fire 
or hazardous haze situation.
‐ HBL may involve some or all students and members 
of staff, depending on the circumstances.

Read the following instructions carefully


before you start your HBL lesson
1. Access LEO 2.0 while you are off-campus
https://myleo.rp.edu.sg/
2. Download the HBL lesson package from LEO 2.0
3. Students to look out for instructions (if any) posted by the
lecturer in the MS Teams or LEO2.0 discussion forum
4. Use Microsoft Teams to communicate with your
teammates, so that you can continue to practice
collaborative learning off-campus
5. Students will be marked “Present” at the beginning of the
HBL lesson. This can be converted to “Absent” if a
student:
• did not participate in any online activities; and
• did not submit the assigned deliverables for that day
by 2359 hours

6. Students will be awarded daily grade as per normal
school day.
7. Daily grade will be awarded based on:
• contributions to class / team discussions in MS Teams
or LEO2.0 discussion forum,
• answers to questions posed by lecturer in Ms Teams or
LEO2.0 discussion forum, as required,
• worksheet, presentation slides, or assignments as
instructed by lecturers,
• individual LEO quiz,
• self and peer evaluation and
• reflection journal (RJ).

Attendance
• All students will be marked as “Present” at the beginning of the
HBL lesson
• Student’s attendance will be converted to “Absent”, if a student:
 did not participate in any of the online activities for any learning
phase; and
 does not submit any post-lesson deliverables for that day by 2359
hours
• Attendance during HBL will count towards the attendance
requirements of the respective modules.
• Leave of Absence (LOA) policy and Module Grade Computation
remains applicable:
 do apply for LOA if you are unwell and unable to submit any of the
deliverables; if not, you will be marked as “Absent without LOA”

What should you do?


• Be regular in attendance

• Have an approved LOA if you cannot attend lessons due to valid 
reasons, e.g. suffering from illness, representing RP for competitions

Check LEO 2.0 attendance page regularly to ensure that your attendance 
has been captured correctly.

Academic Integrity
• You are reminded to maintain academic integrity at all times and
must not share your assignment with other students.
• Any student caught infringing any of the Assessment Rules and
Regulations in any way is liable to disciplinary action including, but
not limited to:
– an outright failure for the Assessment, and
– downgrading of the Module Grade.
• More severe penalties can be imposed on a student caught
cheating in an Assessment including suspension or even dismissal
from the Polytechnic.
