Sytem

The Nervous System- Animation-Video for Kids -from

Objectives
• Define and determine the functions of the
nervous system;
• Explain what is Central Nervous system;
• Describe the different parts of the Central
Nervous System.
The Nervous Sytem
Øconnects all your body parts and
transmits signals from one part
to another.

ØIt is a system of cells, tissues, and organs that
regulates the body’s responses to internal
and external stimuli.
Central Nervous
System (CNS)
-serves as the
main processing
center for the
entire nervous
system.
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Two main components:

a.Brain
b. Spinal Cord
a.
a.Brain -this is an organ
located within
the skull that
functions as
organizer and
distributor of
information for
the body.
Three main parts of
the brain:
• Cerebrum
• Cerebellum
• Brainstem
a.1 Cerebrum
Ø large
Ø upper part
of the brain
that controls
activity and
thought.
a.2 Cerebellum
Ø the part under
the
cerebrum
that
controls
posture,
a.3 Brainstem
Ø medulla oblongata
Ø the parts that connects
the brain to the
spinal cord and
controls automatic
functions such as
breathing, digestion,
heart rate, and
b. Spinal Cord
Ø this serves as a
channel for signals
between the brain
and the rest of the
body, and controls
simple
musculoskeletal
reflexes without
input from the
brain.
