Rules and Regulations for Intra Moot Court Competition, 2022

1. Dress Code

Ladies: White shirt and black pant / black skirt along with black coat.
Gentlemen: White shirt, black trousers, black tie along with black coat.

2. Eligibility

The students who’ve registered themselves for the competition through the google forms are the
ones eligible to participate

3. Language

The language of the competition will be ENGLISH only

4. Venue

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Bengaluru.

5. General Instructions
• The participants are requested to be present on the time allotted to their team on the day
of competition. Delay in joining the online meeting by any participant will lead to
deduction of 10 points in the orals.
• Each participating team shall comprise of minimum of two (2) members and
maximum of three (3) members and all the members shall be designated as
speakers.
• The team shall designate one of its members as the contact person in the
registration form and fill the required contact details of the same in the form. The
OC shall only contact the
• “Contact person” from the team for confirmation, further notification and
updates related to the competition.
• Each team has been allotted a unique team code number which will thereafter be the
identity of the team and its members.
•In case of a three-member team, there shall be 2 speakers and 1 researcher in the
team.
•In case of a two-member team, there shall be two speakers. No one would be the
researcher
•The teams shall identify the speakers and researcher in the registration form itself.
•Teams shall not disclose their identity whatsoever, except in the registration
form. Such disclosure shall result in disqualification subject to the discretion of the
Organizers.
• There will be no substitution of team member after a team has submitted its
registration form, except in the case a registered member has an issue related to
covid-19, it would be left to the discretion of the organizing committee.
• Teams shall not disclose their identity in the written memorial submissions. Such
disclosure shall result in disqualification of the team.
• The last Date for submission of Memorial: April 10th 2022, 11:59 PM and the Oral
Rounds will be held on April 18th 2022. The timings of the Oral Round shall be informed
to the participants before the competition.

• Any team/team member backing out after filling the participation form shall be
debbared from participating in any further moot court competitions for the next
academic year.

6. Rules for Memorial Submission


a) Each team is required to prepare Memorials (written submissions) from the side allotted to
them by the Organizing Committee.
b) Memorials must contain the following:
• Cover page
• Table of Content
• List of Abbreviations
• Index of Authorities/ Table of Cases
• Statement of Jurisdiction
• Summary of facts
• Statement of Issues
• Summary of Arguments
• Arguments Advanced
• Prayer
c) The Cover page shall include:
- The Name of the Court
- The Year of the Competition
- The Name of the Case
- The Name of the parties
- Team Code to be indicated at the bottom right corner in bold. (For example –NMB 01)
- The title of the Document (i.e. “Memorial for Petitioner” or “Memorial for Respondent”)
d) The Memorial shall be typed on A4 size page in Font type Times New Roman, Font size: 12,
1.5-line spacing & 1-inch margin on each side. All the pages of the memorials should have
page numbers at the bottom.
e) 20thBlueBook edition for foot note shall be followed.
f) The Cover Page of the Memorial must follow the following color scheme, Blue for the
Appellant Cover Page and Red for the Respondent Cover Page.
g) Only soft copies of memorials shall be submitted in both pdf and doc format latest by 11.59
PM on 10th April 2022. Late entries shall be penalized and no memorials shall be accepted
after two days from the prescribed date.

h) The contents of the memorial should not be plagiarized (20% limit) or else it will amount
total deduction of memorial marks or disqualification.
i) Identification mark of any type shall be strictly prohibited. Breach of this rule shall lead to
penalty or disqualification.
j) The Memorials shall be submitted through a google form link given below:

k) The name of the memorial file must be “Memorial Submission- (Team Code) -2022”
and the format of file must be .docx. and pdf.
l) In case the name of the file is not as prescribed, memorials will not be accepted and
the organizing committee will not be responsible for delay of such submissions.

m) Memorial from each side shall carry total of Hundred (100) marks. The criteria for
evaluating the memorial are as followed:

7. Rules for Oral Pleadings


• Each team will be given the chance to plead for maximum 30 minutes. Any time
exceeding the allotted time will lead to deduction of 0.25 marks per minute.
• There shall be no rebuttal and sur rebuttal round
•For rebuttal and sur-rebuttal, only one speaker shall be allowed to present. The
time reserved for rebuttal and sur rebuttal cannot be divided between the speakers.
Rebuttal time shall not be reserved beyond 5 minutes.
• The speakers can provide the copies of the compendium, only if the same is
permitted by the panel of judges in their respective courtrooms.
• The fixtures will be decided following the procedure of matchups by the
organizing committee.
 In case of a tie, memorial marks shall be considered for a tie-breaker. In case of
Further tie, marks of the Speaker 1 shall be taken into consideration.
• Pleading time can be extended only on the discretion of the judges.
• The participants are required to ensure good internet connection. In case of poor
connection, the waiting time shall be only 10 minutes, exceeding this time will lead to
disqualification. The organizing committee shall not be responsible for any technical
issues that arise from the side of the participants. The same is also to be followed in case
the participant does not report on stipulated time with any reason whatsoever.
• Strict adherence to court mannersshall be observed by all the participants
• Scouting is strictly prohibited.
• The criterion for scoring of the Speakers has been given herein below:
