ACTIVITY 2.1 (PHED 213)

1. Define the following terms:

a. Choking is when there is something that stock in the throat that block the flow of air. It block
the oxygen that prevents from entering the lungs.
b. Heimlich maneuver is a first aid procedure that use to treat someone who are choking. This
technique is only use to a person who is choking due to something that block the airway.
c. Poisoning is an injury that the person get when swallowing, inhaling, touching, chemicals or
gases. It is a substance that is harmful to our body.

2. Enumerate at least 4 reason of choking.

a. Eating while talking or laughing
b. Attempting to swallow large pieces of foods
c. Running with foods in the mouth
d. Eating to fast

3. Identify the 4 methods of introducing poison into the body.

a. Inhalation or breathing. Inhaling the poison or chemical in the air.
b. Skin. When there is skin contact that is poisonous.
c. Swallowing. When a person swallow a food that is poisonous.
d. Injection. When there is poison that inject in the body.

4. List down at least 3 animal/insect bites that you had experienced and what home remedy did
you apply as a first aid?
a. Mosquito. There is always mosquitoes in our home and I can't avoid to get bitten. Every time
I get bitten by mosquitoes, the first thing I do is to wash the area that got bitten and clean it with
a soap.
b. Ants. Ants is one of our neighbors that every time I stepped in there homes they will bite me
and the home remedy that I apply as a first aid is to wash and clean it with a soap. After I wash
it, I apply a cold compress to reduce the pain and swelling.

c. Bees. I once got bitten by a bees and the first thing I do are wash it, clean it with a soap and
apply cold compress.
