What Began More Than

The Armstrong story began in 1860 at a small plant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Armstrong
Cork is founded by Thomas Armstrong, who started his cork cutting business.

Thomas Armstrong was a brand-name pioneer, stamping “Armstrong” on each cork as early as
1864. And soon he was tucking a written guarantee into the burlap sacks of cork shipped from
a big new factory on Pittsburgh riverbank. Armstrong was a pioneer in customer satisfaction and
quality. As buyer confidence in the Armstrong brand of product and service grew, so did national
sales. In the mid 1890s, Armstrong emerged as the world’s largest cork company and was
incorporated in 1891.

The company began to find new uses for cork and let one product use logically led to another.
Corkboard led to fiberboard led to ceiling board, cork tile and linoleum led to vinyl floor. This
natural progression of product development brought the company to its position of leadership in its
industry.

Armstrong, “Let the buyer have faith”

Homogeneous Vinyl Sheet (HOM)

Armstrong homogeneous vinyl sheet flooring is the industry standard for aseptic healthcare applications, like operating rooms and surgical suites, as well
as other medical environments. The through-pattern/chip construction throughout the entire thickness provides superior gouge, abrasion, and indentation
resistance. The tough Diamond 10TM coatings protect the floor’s appearance and allow for low maintenance options. For superior infection control, floors
should be heat welded and flash coved.

Accolade Safe is use of recycled PVC and low VOC emission. It was born from the demand for an“easier to maintain” slip resistant
floor covering and it is a “safety floor” without impregnated silicon carbide chips. The embossed surface (reduces aquaplaning),
while aiding slip resistance, also helps to hide subfloor imperfections.
It forms a family with Accolade Plus to mix and match in various areas such as bathroom and room. It is also recommended for very
heavy traffic areas.
