Module 5 Assignment 1 in The Life and Works of Rizal

Write your experience or insights on how the youth today shows confidence and interest in using
their mother tongue. Do the youth still value the language they were brought up with? Explain
your answer.
As a Filipino youth, I encountered young people who were communicating in English language
and Filipino language. Many young people preferred the English language as a mode of
communication because majority of the school subjects used the English language as a tool of
learning. Other young people didn’t understand the Filipino language because there are difficult
Filipino words that young people didn’t understand. The youth still value the language that they
were brought up with but there are instances that the youth forgot to use the national language. If
the subject is in English language, then the youth speak English language. If the subject is in
Filipino language, then the youth also speak Filipino language. However, there are young people
who are often using two languages when they speak (Taglish is the term). The youth must avoid
combining languages in communication especially when they are at the office or school. The
reason that the youth must avoid combining languages in communication at the office or school
is that the youth are learning how to communicate professionally in school and office.
