Company Issues, Problems and Challenges:

• Main Problem: For a company that was just started last 2016 and with a current
manpower of 11 personnel, the high cost of wages and government shares on employee
benefits and insurances covers a big chunk of the Company’s OPEX.
• Sub Problems:
o Continuing high cost of Raw Materials
o Skills Development of employees
• Root Causes:
o Government Mandates on Minimum Wage
o Government Mandates on Cost Sharing for SSS, Phil Health
o Educational Attainment vs. Skills gained thru work experiences and the program of the
company on skills and character development.
HR Intervention Programs (Alternative Courses of Actions):

• HR Intervention 1:
Manpower Audit wherein you determine the man-hour required on every scope of work. In that
way, one can gauge if the current manpower is sufficient enough to handle the entire operation
of the company.
Advantages

It is a good exercise of detailing the steps-by-steps operation of the company as well as

identifying the core and major scope of the entire operation critical to the success of the
company. An opportunity to look into programs to enhance efficiency in operations.

Disadvantages

If the result of the audit resulted to an excess manpower, employee lay-off is inevitable. If it
found to be undermanned, the need to hire additional manpower means additional cost.

• HR Intervention 2:
High cost of Raw Materials can be resolved thru extensive exploration of market by hiring or
training an employee to do canvassing and purchasing capacity.

Advantages:

The Purchaser that will work exclusively not only to get the lowest priced raw materials but also
can ensure the availability of these materials to ensure business continuity. He/She can also
devise a system of bidding wherein there will be a thorough review of the cost and the quality of
the materials including the service level and delivery agreement.

Disadvantages

Additional manpower means additional cost for wages. In addition to benefits and insurance.

• HR Intervention 3:
To be able to maintain the most minimum number of the organization, the need to develop the
skills of every employee is very vital in order to maximize their potential and thus, add flexibility
to the existing operation that can result to a bigger output while maintain the same amount of
manpower.

Advantages:

Employee has got to learn new skill set. Trying new skills will give more enthusiasm in their
attitude towards their work. It somehow reduces boredom in their daily repetitive works. It is
known also that working on the same routine everyday makes a worker too comfortable with his
work thus, unknowingly induce carelessness and eventually may lead to work related accident.

Disadvantages:

By utilizing old employees or existing manpower, you can only do so much of their capacity, since
it is not included in the qualification at the time they were hired. You will have a limited
improvement on the employees with lower educational achievements.
