Activity #1

“Basketball doesn’t build character,

it reveals it.”

Basketball doesn’t help develop an athlete's character it helps bring out a

person's intrinsic attributes. A person's character has already been formed;

basketball just bring it out. For example, when a basketball player loses a

game, his response will be observed. If he is enraged at his teammate, or if

he will use it as motivation for the next game to won, the true attitude of a

person will be seen it in playing basketball.

QUIZ #1

REFLECTION:

1. What do you think are the benefits that you will be able to gain upon

engaging with the sport basketball?

Playing basketball will improve our physical, emotional, and social well-

being. In terms of health or physical, it enhances a player's muscular

endurance, produces a healthy bone structure as a result of continuous

running and playing, improves balance and coordination, develops

fundamental movement abilities, improves body composition, and most

significantly, improves heart health. In terms of emotional aspect, basketball

improves a player's self-confidence by allowing teammates to encourage and

motivate one another. Basketball also aids in reducing a person's stress levels

since it generates endorphins, which are positive or happy chemicals that

make people less likely to worry about issues and experience tension. For

social benefits, it molds everyone to encourage team spirit or teamwork in

interacting with others, and it develops communication skills because playing

basketball enhances every player's ability to communicate verbally or

nonverbally through signals, eye to eye contact, gestures, and other means.

2. What is the main reason of Dr. James Naismith for inventing the game

basketball?

According to the history, Dr. James Naismith, a college professor, was

having a problem in December of 1891. Because of the cold weather, his

students had gotten raucous. They possessed a lot of energy, but there was
no way for them to use it. The sport football and baseball were too cold to play

outside, and playing them in the gym was too unsafe. Naismith was requested

to create a new indoor activity for the school. Naismith recalled a game when

he was a child, a rock-throwing game. He thinks that what if players hurled a

ball towards a target? Wherein the winning team would be the one who threw

the most balls into the target. Naismith coined the term "basketball" to

describe his new sport.

3. Briefly site your understanding about this quote, “Heroes come and go, but

legends are forever” by KOBE BRYANT.

For me, these statements demonstrate that while a person's talents wane

with age, his legacy as a player will live on in the hearts and minds of the

public. Even if a person decides to retire, his or her distinctive moves will live

in the minds of others. On the other side, a large number of players will arrive

and may take the place of the retiring player, but the maneuvers, talents, and

even signatures will never be the same. It might be a close match, but not a

perfect photocopy.
