CHAPTER – 2
ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY
INTRODUCTION
People use different methods to accomplish a
task. Some prefer to work in groups, whereas
others prefer work independently. What is your
opinion on the same? Which method do you
prefer?
INDEPENDENT PERSON
An independent person is aware of his feelings and characters; observes
evaluates his behavior, and corrects his mistakes. He knows what he needs
to do. An independent person takes initiative, rather than being told what
to do. He takes ownership of his mistakes without mistakes without
looking for excuses and does require constant assistance or supervision to
complete the task.
To become a good independent learner you need to be:
Less Teamwork: working individually clearly isn’t always the best option
because you have limited resources & thinking.
Less Creativity: While working alone pushes you to find your own creativity,
it’s probably not more beneficial than working in a team.
More Stressed: Sure, working independently gives you more freedom and
efficiency, but with this comes stress. Operating alone means taking on all the
work by yourself. You can’t delegate different tasks to other team members, and
you’ve got to make sure every responsibility is fulfilled by the time the deadline
arrives.
Get Bored: Working alone, however, strips you of these benefits. You’ll likely
get bored and lonely over time, no matter how busy your workflow is. There’s
no one to talk to, nobody to share ideas with and not anyone to discuss your
concerns with.
TYPES OF SELF-AWARENESS
SELF-MOTIVATION
Self-motivation is ability to do thinks on your own
without being told to do so. Self-motivation is a
glorious cycle of boosting self-confidence and self-
esteem. Self-motivation definition, initiative to
undertake or continue a task or activity without
another's prodding or supervision.
TYPES OF SELF-MOTIVATION
2. Extrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic motivation comes from
within, while extrinsic
motivation arises from outside.
When you're
intrinsically motivated, you
engage in an activity solely
because you enjoy it and get
personal satisfaction from it. When
you're extrinsically motivated, you
do something in order to gain an
external reward.
SELF-REGULATION
Self-regulation is controlling one's behavior, emotions and thoughts is the
pursuit of long-term goals. It also
reflects the ability to cheer yourself
after disappointments.
• Self-regulation focuses on the ability
to affect personal and professional
growth based on self-awareness and
motivation.
• It involves taking a pause between a
feeling and an action — taking the time
to think, making a plan and waiting
patiently.
• It helps you to express yourself in most
appropriate ways.
