STUDY NOTES FOR GROUND PORTION OF FLIGHT TEST

 Best Glide Speed (VBG): The speed that provides maximum lift-to-drag ratio and thus the
greatest gliding distance available.
 Stall Speed Landing Configuration (VSO): The minimum steady flight speed at which the
airplane is controllable in the landing configuration at the most forward center of gravity.
 Rotation Speed (VR): The speed at which the pilot begins to apply control inputs to cause the
aircraft nose to pitch up, after which it will leave the ground.
 Stall Speed (VS): The minimum steady flight speed at which the airplane is controllable.
 Manuevering Speed (VA): The maximum speed at which you may use abrupt control travel.
 Maximum Flap Extended Speed (VFE): The highest speed permissible with wing flaps in a
prescribed extended position.
 Maximum Structural Cruising Speed (VNO): The speed that should not be exceeded except
in the smooth air, then only with caution.
 Never Exceed Speed (VNE): The speed limit that may not be exceeded at any time.
 Best Rate of Climb Speed (VY): The speed which results in the greatest gain in altitude in a
given time.
o 67 kts
 Best Angle of Climb Speed (VX): The speed which results in the greatest gain of altitude in a
given horizontal distance.
o 55 kts
