1. OBJECTIVE:

 To ensure the safety management systems / 100% safety compliance across the
company including contractors, Vendors, visitors and government officials.
 To ensure all employees who are working inside the campus shall adhere to the
safety and health requirement of the company
 To ensure, educate and train all the personal to create awareness on safety and health
requirements

2. PURPOSE:

Sartorius Stedim India S & H Policy is a cornerstone of the companies Safety and
Health Management system, which includes Setting up a Safety goals and targets and
involve safety system in Business practices to maintain a 360o safety culture.

3. SCOPE:

Applicable to Sartorius India Campus Bangalore.

4. RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Top Management: To Derive and approve the Safety and Health policy for
Sartorius India Campus with respect to resource and implementation.
Periodical review of S&H Policy and ensure the status and reassess the policy for
update the objectives of the S&H Policy.

4.2 Department Heads: All the department heads should adhere to Safety & Health
Policy, take lead in Implementation and communicate the same to their department,
respective vendors / contractors / visitor.

4.3 Plant safety: As per top management guidance develop the Company Safety and
Health Policy. Support all the department heads to implement and communicate the
safety policy objectives across the company and periodical update to the Top
Management on status of safety management system and continual improvement
process and sustenance of Safety management system in Company business
practices.
To ensure the policy is available to all.

4.4 Individuals: All Employees of the company should adhere to the Safety and Health
Policy to achieve the required safety standard.

5. Requirements

Policy has been derived based on the company business activities, Standards and the
statutory requirements.

5.1 Statutory Requirements:

Based on the Karnataka Factories Rule 1969 Rule No. 88 E - The Health and Safety Policy

The Health and Safety policy should contain or deal with:

a) Declared intention and commitment of the top management to Health, Safety and
Environment and Compliance with all the relevant statutory requirements;
b) Organizational set up to carry out the declared policy clearly assigning the
responsibility at different levels; and
c) Arrangements for making the policy effective.

In particular, the policy should specify the following: —

a) Arrangements for involving the workers;


b) Intention of taking into account the Health and Safety performance of individuals at
different levels while considering their career advancement;
c) Fixing the responsibility of the contractors, subcontractors, transporters and other
agencies entering the premises;
d) Providing a resume of Health and Safety performance of the factory in its Annual
Report;
e) Relevant techniques and methods, such as safety audits and risk assessment for
periodical assessment of the status on Health, Safety and Environment and taking
all the remedial measures;
f) Stating its intentions to integrate Health and Safety, in all decisions including those
dealing with purchase of plant, equipment, machinery and material as well as
selection and placement of personnel; and
g) Arrangements for informing, educating and training and retraining its own
employees at different levels and the public, wherever required.

A copy of the declared Health and Safety Policy signed by the occupier shall be made
available to the Inspector having jurisdiction over the factory and to the Chief Inspector.

The policy shall be made widely known by:—

a) Making copies available to all workers including contract workers, apprentices,


transport workers, suppliers, etc.;
b) Displaying copies of the policy at conspicuous places; and

c) Any other means of communication in a language understood by majority of


workers.

The occupier shall revise the Safety Policy as often as may be appropriate, but it shall
necessarily be revised under the following circumstances:—

a) Whenever any expansion or modification having implications on Safety and Health


of persons at work is made; or
b) Whenever new substance(s) or articles are introduced in the manufacturing process
having implications on Health and Safety of persons exposed to such substances.

5.2 Standard OHSAS 18001:2007

Top management shall define and authorize the organization’s OH&S policy and ensure
that within the defined scope of its OH&S management system it:

a) Is appropriate to the nature and scale of the organization’s OH&S risks;


b) Includes a commitment to prevention of injury and ill health and continual
improvement in OH&S management and OH&S performance;
c) Includes a commitment to at least comply with applicable legal requirements and
with other requirements to which the organization subscribes that relate to its
OH&S hazards;
d) Provides the framework for setting and reviewing OH&S objectives;
e) Is documented, implemented and maintained;
f) Is communicated to all persons working under the control of the organization with
the intent that they are made aware of their individual OH&S obligations;
g) Is available to interested parties; and
h) Is reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains relevant and appropriate to the
organization.

5.3 Safety and Health Policy

Considering all the statutory, Standard and Nature of business

Safety and Health Policy

Sartorius recognizes & accepts its responsibility as an employer for providing a Safe &
Healthy work place & work environment to its employees and others (Contractors,
Visitors & Public) who may be affected by its work.

Sartorius India is in to Design, Manufacture, Installation, Service of product and System


for Bio Process applications, Research and Development of Validation Projects and
Service for Pharma and Bio-Pharmaceuticals while give first priority for safety to achieve
Zero accident in all the business practices.

Sartorius is committed to achieve the above by: -

 Proactively Compliance to applicable legal and other statutory EHS requirements


 Ensuring all Employees are trained and involve them in Safety and Health
initiatives.
 Identifying work related Safety and Health hazards, eliminating them by
following safe practices
 Ensuring Machine safety to create safe and healthy working environment.
 Continual Improvement process of Health and safety performance.
 Following safe practices while working at High Risk activities (Ex. Work at
Height, Hot Works, Confined space work etc.).

6. Training :

All the Employees are to be given awareness training on Safety and Health Policy.
Refresher training to be conducted once in a year to educate any changes in the policy.
All Contractors, Vendors and visitors are educated by providing hard copy of safety and
Health policy (in regional language and English).
For public policy to be displayed at the entrance
