HT MOTOR

1 PURPOSE: Preventive Maintenance of HT Motor & Feeder.

2 SCOPE OF To check Healthiness of HT Motor & Feeder.

4 PROCEDURE:
TASK RESPONSIBILITY
1 Before taking the job on the HT Motor feeder, ensure that the
HT Motor Tag number & the feeder isolated are correct and as
mentioned on the permit.
2 Switch off the AC, DC auxiliary power supply and the space
heater supply. DM / AM / AE
3 Before start of maintenance job, check Insulation Resistance
(IR) of HT Motor and Power cable with HT Meggar
After taking the IR value discharge the cable.

4 Check the winding resistance & inductance with the motor

checker.
5 Clean the cable chamber with dry cotton cloth. Inspect the Engg/Supervisor/AM
terminations for any abnormality. Check and tighten the loose
connections if any.

6 Check and tighten the CT Connections. Check the cable earthing

connections.

7 Check the space heater of motor & of the cable chamber/ panel.
8 Tighten all the control and power connections.
9 Check all the control fuses for proper rating. Check the LED
indication lamps condition. Repair/replace if faulty.
10 Clean accumulated dirt from the motor body. Check the general
structure of the motor for signs of any corrosion or other
damages.
11 Check the cooling tubes condition. The tubes should be clear
from any obstruction. If required do the tube cleaning.
12 Check all earthing connections on the motor for cleanliness and
tightness. Replace the rusted nut bolts if required.

13 Open the PSTB, Motor TB, Instrumentation TB and Space

heater TB one by one. Check for abnormality in the following:
a. Check for sign of heating marks on cable & DM / AM / AE
terminations.
b. Check & tighten the electrical connections.
c. Check for any hairline crack on insulator/connector.
d. Phase separators.
e. Gaskets of PSTB & Motor terminal box.

14 Open the motor terminal box having star point of the motor. Engg/Supervisor/AM
Check the tightness of connections and any abnormalities. In
case of motor having differential protection, check the
tightness of CT terminals
15 Check and tighten the motor canopy. While boxing up the
terminal boxes apply little grease on the bolts.
16 Check the LCS for any abnormality. Clean the LCS. Tighten the
connections. Do the proper housekeeping of the area.
17 Ensure cable support/gland is firmly secured. Ensure that all cable
glands are tight and there is no visible damage to cabling external
to the motor.
18 Check Insulation Resistance (IR) of HT Motor and Power cable
with HT Meggar after final box-up / completing the job.

5. VERIFICATION, CORECTIVE AND PREVENTIVE ACTION:

Head of the Department shall ensure the implementation of the above procedure. In case of
any deviation, corrective and preventive actions shall be initiated.
