1 The Caribbean Region of Colombia is located at the northern part of Colombia and South

America. It’s formed by the departments of Atlantic, Bolivar, Cesar, Cordoba, Guajira,
Magdalena, Sucre and the department formed by the archipelago of San Andres Island,
Providencia and Santa Catalina.

TRADITIONAL FOOD: You can taste a variety of dishes.

Folklore and Traditional Costumes.

FOLK MUSIC: The rhythm and dance most internationally known it’s cumbia, which combines
indigenous melodies and African rhythms

The traditional female Cumbia dress is made by different colours with little squares red and
white. The blouse has short sleeves and the skirt is long. The dancer normally has a bouquet of
flowers on top of her head

The male dancer dresses up all white. The shirt has round collar and the trousers has a cauliflower
shape at the back. Other accessories for male Cumbia dress are a palma hat, a little red
handkerchief around the neck. Also the have a traditional colourful bag.
There is another traditional dance very popular of the Caribbean Coast. It’s called Mapale.

Female dress: Turban decorated by flowers, short skirt.

Male dress: red trousers with a Mambo shape at the bottom. Shirt also Mambo type on the cuffs.
2. Andinean region

The Andes region, located in the center of Colombia, is the most populated region of Colombia.
With many mountains contains the majority of the country's urban centers.The Andina Region
enconpass the departments Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío and Antioquia (Eje Cafetero), Huila,
Tolima, Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Santander and Norte de Santander.

TRADITIONAL FOOD: It has a variety of dishes such as: BANDEJA PAISA, AJIACO,
CUCHUCO,MUTE, COCIDO BOYACENSE, TAMALES TOLIMENSES, LECHONA, FRITANGA.

Traditional costumes.

Among the traditions of the Andina region, it is worth to highlight the following traditional dances:
Bambuco, Torbellino, Guabina, Pasillo, Bunde.

EL BAMBUCO (SANJUANERO): It is the most common folk dance of that region and the most
representative.

WOMAN. White blouse with washers, cleavage tray, skirt with flower prints, petticoat with lace,
flower ornament on the head, espadrilles.
MAN: Hat, scarf, shirt with breast, cotton trousers and espadrilles.

Torbellino: It is one of the most representative dance of de Boyacá, Cundinamarca y Santander.


3 Pacific Region.

Framed by the Cordillera of the Western Andes and the Pacific Ocean, Is located in the
antropogeographic area of the Pacific Coast, which covers the department of Chocó and the
coastal areas of the departments of Valle, Cauca and Nariño.

The Pacific has the most climate variety. However, the warm weather predominates.

Traditional Food:

Of all traditional dishes there is a great variety in the way the locals of Choco region cook their
fish and the plantain. Which it is very.

PIPIAN. Sauce made with pumpkin seeds toasted and ground, or corn mixed with achiote, and used

we have the following: Currulao, patacoré, berejú, juga, maquerute, aguabajo, dance, contradanza, jota
and bunde .Ç

WOMAN. Wear wide white or colored skirts, wide blouse with a tray and bolero neck, three
quarter sleeve, and head scarf or turban.
MAN: He wears white trousers, and a wide white shirt, hat and scarf.

THE JUGA

WOMAN. Head scarf, brightly colored ankle length skirt,


and floral print. The skirt and blouse with ribbons.

4 ORINOCO REGION

The Orinoco region is one of the five natural regions of Colombia that belongs to the Orinoco
River watershed. It is also known colloquially as the Eastern Plains from the Spanish Llanos
Orientales The Departments that comprise it are: Arauca, Casanare, Meta, Vichada.

TRADITIONAL FOOD:

MEAT COMOLA MAMONA, THE ROASTED ALA BRASA TERNERA, LAS HALLACAS, TAMALES.
DRINKS. The guarapo of juice of cane.

Other special dishes with hallaca, tamal stuffed with meat and vegetables
soups like boiled gumare, soup of hen.

BETWEEN DANCES CANTOS AND RYTHMOS OF THE EASTERN PLAINS ARE HIGHLIGHTS:
JOROPO, GALEON AND PASSAGE.

WOMAN: TAKES A DRESS WITH WASHERS AND LARGE SKIRT STAMPED OF FLOWERS AND
LIVING COLORS.TOCADO OF FLOWERS AND QUOTES.
MAN: WEAR LIQUILIQUI: WHITE SUIT, STRAW HAT AND QUOTES.

Man: Straw hat black or sometimes White, denim pants, cotton shirt, poncho, kerchief and
traditional shoes called espadrille.

Woman: black skirt made of cotton with color ribbons around it, white blouse and espadrille.
