Normal Urine Color


The color of urine varies from different reasons. Normal urine is usually caused by a pigment called urochrome,
which gives the yellow color. This color reflects how much water is present in the body. The following are the
normal colors of urine:

Pale Yellow Yellow AMBER

LIGHT Yellow Dark Yellow

Abnormal Urine Color


Abnormal Urine Color are usually caused by diseases, infections, medicines, treatments, food intake, etc. Although some of
these causes are normal some are caused by serious reasons. The following are the abnormal colors of urine:

Red or Pink Urine


These colors are caused by:

- Eating beetroots, or black berries


- Medication like laxatives that contains sena
- Blood in urine (injury, infection, kidney disease, prostate problems, severe muscle injury or cancer)
- Lead or mercury poisoning
Orange Urine
This is caused by:

- Dehydration
- Medications (rifampin, laxatives, chemotherapy drugs)
- Problem in bile ducts, and liver.
- Dietary Factors (eating too much carrots)
- Jaundice

Blue or Green Urine


These colors are caused by:

- Drugs that contain phenol, antidepressants, propofol, and


some multivitamins.
- Food colorings/dyes
- Biliverdin or bile pigment
- Infections in the urinary tract (pseudomonas aeruginosa)
- Hypercalcemia (rare hereditary disease)

BROWN Urine
This colors are caused by:

- Antipsychotic drugs, antibiotics, sennoside laxatives


- Urinary tract infections
- Liver disorder
- Kidney disorder
- Sever muscle injury
- Eating too much rhubarb, aloe, or fava beans

Purple Urine
These color is caused by:

- Porphyria (rare metabolic disorder)


- Purple Urine Bag Disorder that occurs in constipated women, chronically
catharized, urinary infections that produces (sulphatase or phosphatase)
