LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICS

Topic: Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution

Year Level: Grade 9
Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy from
power plants (hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, nuclear) to home
Performance Standards The learners shall be able to:
analyze how power plants generate and transmit electrical energy
Learning Competency Explain how electrical energy is generated, transmitted, and
distributed.

Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Explain how electricity is being generated in power plants.
2. Trace the path of electrical energy transmission and
distribution from the source to consumers.
3. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of some power
plants in the environment and community.

Materials: visual aids, activity sheet, PowerPoint, textbook, videos

Procedures
Elicit Present pictures of things powered by electricity.

Ask:
 If they can imagine living without electricity?

Teacher uses a short written quiz to test student’s previous

knowledge

Engage Show pictures of water falls and volcanoes.

Ask:
 Do this water form and land form possessed energy?
Why or why not?
 How can the energies of these reach our home?

Explore Essential Question: How is electrical energy generated, transmitted

and distributed from power plants?

1. Students will perform activity 2 “Tracing Power” on pages

328- 330 of the Learner’s Module
2. They will be divided into six groups and materials are
provided for each group. Based on the puzzle pieces given,
they will form a power plant and identify the type of power
plant formed. Also, there will be strips to be arranged that
will explain how electricity is generated, transmitted and
distributed.
3. Give each group 5 minutes to discuss and trace the path
from the source to the consumer using arrows.

Explain Discussion of student’s outputs on the activity.

Lecturette: Electrical energy generation, transmission and

distribution with PowerPoint presentation.
Elaborate The teacher will show a video of how power plant generate, transmit
and distribute electricity.

Follow up questions:
 What kind of power plant is built in Negros?
 Which place/ province in the Philippines uses wind
power?
 Which place/ province in the Philippines use nuclear
power? Why?

There will be a pair-think share activity, wherein they will discuss the
situation given by the teacher.

Situation: In the Philippines, the Government has a plan to

reopen the Nuclear Power Plant in Bataan.

Guided Questions:
1. What are the benefits of reopening the Nuclear Power plant in
Bataan in the community?
2. What are the health risks and safety concerns involved in
using nuclear power plant especially in the environment and the
community?
4. Do you agree with the reopening of the Nuclear power plant
in Bataan? If yes, what are the things that must be keep in mind
to prevent disaster. If no, what are the alternative solutions you
can suggest aside from reopening the nuclear power plant?
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of some power plants to
the environment.

Evaluate Draw flow chart showing how energy from the earth’s interior,
waterfalls, wind and nucleus of the atom able to reach the household
in the form of electrical energy.

Extend Bring household’s latest electric bill. Read and discuss among your
group mates the “Performance Task Diorama Making”. Make one
diorama for each group to be passed next week.
