LEARNING PLAN

Subject Area/Level: SCIENCE 8 Date: JANUARY 8-12, 2024 Week No. 8

Unit Topic: ELECTRIC QUANTITIES Quarter No. 3

Stage I – Desired Results

Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of current-voltage-resistance relationship, electric power,
electric energy, and home circuitry.
Performance Standard:
The learners should be able to create a campaign poster about electrical energy conservation.
Essential Understanding:
An electrical circuit is a closed path where electrons can flow as electric current from a voltage source.
Circuits can be connected in series, parallel, or in any combination of the two.
Essential Questions:
1. What is electricity?
2. How is electricity produced?
3. What are the different measurements of electricity?
Learning Competencies:
The learners…
 understand the basic concepts of electricity, including circuits, conductors, and
insulators.
 identify and explain the components of a simple circuit.
 explore the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance.
Learning Target:
I can…
 differentiate between heat and temperature at the molecular level,
 understand the kinetic theory of matter and how it relates to heat and temperature; and
 explain the transfer of thermal energy through conduction, convection, and radiation.

Stage II – Evidence of Learning

The students will reflect the importance of different electrical measurements, how to determine the
amount of current that flows through a circuit, and the rate at which electrical energy is used by an
element in the circuit.

Stage III – Learning Plan

A. Explore
Day 1
1. Begin with a brief discussion on what students know about electricity. Ask questions like: What
is electricity? Where do we encounter electricity in our daily lives?
2. Introduce the key terms: voltage, current, and resistance.
3. Use simple analogies to help students understand these concepts (e.g., comparing electricity
flow to water flow in a pipe).
4. Show images or videos of various electrical appliances and systems to pique students' interest.
5. Discuss the atom and its role in the flow of electricity. Explain the concept of electrons and how
they move to create an electric current.
Day 2
1. Review about electricity.
2. Introduce the idea of circuits. Draw a simple circuit on the board and explain the components:
power source (battery), conductors (wires), loads (light bulbs, resistors), and switches.
3. Conduct a hands-on activity where students create a basic circuit using batteries, wires, and a
light bulb. Discuss the flow of electrons in the circuit.
4. Discuss the properties of conductors and insulators. Provide examples of common materials that
are good conductors (e.g., copper) and insulators (e.g., rubber).
5. Conduct an experiment where students test the conductivity of various materials using a simple
circuit. Record and discuss the results.

Day 3

Voltage, Current, and Resistance

1. Explain the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance using Ohm's Law (V = I * R).
2. Discuss the units of measurement for each (volts, amperes, ohms).
3. Demonstrate the effects of changing voltage and resistance in a circuit. Use a multimeter to
measure voltage and current in different scenarios.
B. FIRM UP
Day 4
1. Review the key concepts learned during the lesson.
2. Ask students to summarize the properties of conductors and insulators and explain the
relationship between voltage, current, and resistance.
C. DEEPEN
Day 5
1. Summarize the key concepts of the properties of conductors and insulators.
2. Summative assessment through a short quiz or written reflections on the key concepts learned.
3. Assign a homework task related to electricity, such as researching a famous electrical inventor
or drawing and labeling a simple circuit.
IV. ASSESSMENT
1. Formative
2. Summative
