Q.5 Short answer questions
1. Define the term mammals. Name some mammals which give
birth to their young ones.
Ans: 1. Animals that give birth to their young ones and produce
milk to feed them are known as mammals. These animals carry
their young ones in their bodies for several weeks or months till
they are ready to be born. Horses, tigers, lions, elephants, cats,
dogs and humans are some examples of mammals.
2. What are the different ways by which animals reproduce?
Ans: Animals reproduce by giving birth to babies or laying eggs
from which young ones come out.
3. What is the importance of yolk for the growing embryo?
Ans: The yolk is rich in vitamins, fats and other essential
minerals. The growing baby (embryo) inside the egg gets food from
the yolk.
4. How is a nymph different from an adult cockroach?
Ans: A baby cockroach without wings is called a nymph. It has no
wings. As it grows, it sheds its old skin and grows a new skin. It is
called moulting. This happens many times and finally, the nymph
becomes an adult cockroach.
