ANALYZE THE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS STRATEGY OF A


MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION

Assessment Overview:
Aim: Reflecting upon the concepts and theories learnt from the unit, this assessment require you
to analyze the international business strategy of a selected MNC. The report should demonstrate
a systematic strategic analysis of the firm, appropriately incorporating concepts from the
readings and lecture materials, and propose specific, actionable recommendations.
Refecting upon the concepts and theories learnt from the subject, you are required to analyze the
company you have chosen and make use of real and relevant data (e.g., company annual reports,
financial reports, country and industry level data) to address the following themes and questions:
1. Brief description of the firm, its operation, products/services, markets, customers
2. Chapter 1 (Global strategic management): Phases of global strategy, drivers for a global
strategic perspective
3. Chapter 2,3 (External environment): Diamond model, EFE matrix, CPM
4. Chapter 4 (Internal Environment): Identify the resources and core competencies of the
firm. VRIO, IFE
5. Chapter 5,6 (Internationalization process): Entry mode analysis – motives to
internationalize, expansion process, advantage and disadvantages of entry modes
6. Chapter 7,8 (Subsidiary and corporate level strategy): Analyze the firm’s corporate
(diversification, outsourcing) and subsidiary (differentiation, cost leadership, focus) level
strategy
7. Strategy formulation: SWOT matrix, SPACE, BCG, IE, Grand strategy matrix, QSPM
8. Provide a set of recommendations considering the above points and analysis

described above. A sample structure is provided below however please feel free to introduce
your own structure that suits your analysis.
