Aim: Reflecting upon the concepts and theories learnt from the unit, this assessment requires you to

region.

Task: Identify one Australian company invested in any one of the countries relevant to this Unit (e.g.
China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Taiwan, Cambodia, Fiji,
PNG, Vietnam, etc.). If the company operates in more than one country, you may choose to focus

strategic analysis of the company, appropriately incorporating concepts from the readings and lecture
materials, and propose specific, actionable recommendations.
Reflecting upon the concepts and theories learnt from the subject, you are required to analyse the
company you have chosen and make use of real and relevant data (e.g., company annual reports,
financial reports, country and industry level investment data for years 2011- 2020) to address the
following themes and questions:

1. Brief description of the firm, its operations in the chosen country, products/services, markets,
customers etc.
2. How does the country of choice position itself in the Asian region? (Hint: You may explain this in
the context of Asian regionalism and global business trends) (Your reflection may include contents
from lecture 1, 2, 3)
3. Provide a reflection of the culture of country and the region affecting the business operations of the
firm (Hint: reflect upon lecture 2 & 4).

4. What were the motivations for and initial investment arrangements of the company (joint
venture/ partnership) in engaging with Asia? Describe the choice of business segments and
competitive approach. Reflect upon relevant lecture contents.
5. What sources of market intelligence were and/or are available? How do the country’s technological
capabilities including information technology influence the business operations? ( Hint: reflect upon
lecture 8 and other relevant lectures)
6. What are the Do’s and Don’ts in conducting business in that country? Include application
forms from various agencies (e.g. Business registration form, investment clearance form,
customs clearance form, regulatory requirements from various agencies, FDI/ foreign
investment regulation/ clearance requirements) in the appendix section of your assignment.
7. What are the key competencies of the company that made the expansion into the specific
country(of your choice) successful? (Reflect upon relevant lecture content)
8. What challenges has the company faced over the years in sustaining its business in the
specific country (of your choice)?
Provide a set of recommendations considering your answers to the foregoing points and analysis.
