"Small action, Big Impact": Catching up with the habit of using eco-friendly biodegradable packaging

The daily use of nylon bags, plastic packaging, ...has significantly worsen environmental pollution. To contribute to
improving our living environment, we could begin with the smallest and most practical actions.

When the environment "calls for help"

Using nylon bags, plastic packaging products,... has become a habit of many people. Therefore, as can be seen in
many places, nylon packaging is still the number one choice of many consumers, especially at farmers markets,
restaurants,...

According to the Institute for Strategic and Environmental Policy, plastic waste has always been seen as a global
problem. Vietnam is currently one of the countries with the largest amount of plastic waste in the world. According
to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s estimation, there are about 30 billion nylon packaging
bags were used and discarded each year in Vietnam. However, only 17% are recycled and reused while the rest
gets discarded immediately after one use.

Normally, nylon packaging takes 500 - 1.000 years to decompose. If using the combustion method, nylon bags will
produce many toxic gases such as CO2, causing air pollution affecting human health. Furthermore, flowing nylon
packaging will also cause ponds, lakes, rivers to be clogged with stagnant wastewater leading to the situation of
polluted domestic water sources. As a result, people are continuously suffering from the harmful effects of nylon
packaging.

Currently, many large supermarket chains and wise consumers have limited the use of non-biodegradable nylon
packaging They use less nylons or even replacing its with single-use plastic materials made from biodegradable,

environmentally friendly products. This has gradually helped other consumers become more aware of nylon bag
usage and waste collection.

Stavian Chemical and the "Small Action, Big Meaning" Effort

In Vietnam, there are many business that prioritize sustainable development solutions and environmental
protection. In particular, Stavian Chemical Joint Stock Company (Stavian Chemical) is one of the leading
enterprises in the production of environmentally friendly biodegradable packaging.

To maintain the development throughout the past decade, Stavian Chemical's products have been independently
tested according to U.S. laboratory standards and achieved environmentally friendly plastic bag certification by the
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Stavian Chemical's packaging products are exported to markets that are strict in quality standards such as Japan,
Europe and the Americas.

Recently, Stavian Distribution, a member of Stavian Group, has launched a new environmentally friendly
biodegradable packaging product line called the STAHAUS. This product line produced by Stavian has been
upgraded and improved in terms of design as well as quality from the former product line named Green Eco – the

best-selling brand in many major supermarket chains that is already very familiar to Vietnamese consumers.
Currently, STAHAUS products have been supplied to many large supermarket systems such as WinMart, WinMart+,
Big C, BRG, Lotte,.. as their strategic partner.
STAHAUS is officially distributed at the point of sale system, supermarket chain, large department store nationwide
with diverse product categories.

In an interview, Ms. Le Ngoc (Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi) said: "For many years, my family has regularly used Green Eco's
biodegradable products. Recently, I realised that the brand changed its name to STAHAUS, the design is more eye-
catching as well the price is very reasonable and the quality is always assured. I also have the habit of taking
baskets to the market or self-decomposing bags when going to the supermarket to limit the use of nylon bags. If
every citizen keeps this habit, the environment will reduce plastic waste and limit the amount of plastic bags that
are difficult to destroy to the market”.

Wishing to accompany the Government of Vietnam in the plan to reduce single-use plastic waste and call on
people to change their habits, use biodegradable bags, be environmentally friendly, STAHAUS is committed to
developing with the criteria of "Specialized, minimalist, Nordic standard" considering health and convenience as a
top priority, ensuring the safety of Vietnamese food and consumers' health.
