Activity

Ask the learners to classify the following account titles as to Assets, Liabilities, Owners
Equity, Revenue and expenses. The learners will write their answers on the appropriate
column in their activity notebook.

Abstraction

Teacher will explain to the class the following:

Chart of accounts- is a listing of the accounts and the account numbers which identify
their location in the ledger.

Account Numbers -is assigned to each account for cross-referencing and retrieval of
information.

The chart is arranged in a financial statement order, specifically in the order of the
accounting elements. The order is:

The following are the steps in the preparation of a basic chart of accounts:
1. Create three columns.
2. Prepare the assets first, then liabilities, then equity, then revenue and expenses.
3. List all assets, liabilities, equity, revenue and expenses account in the first
column.
4. On the second column, choose an account code (discretion of the company).
5. On the third column, write the description for each account on when to use it.

Application

Ask them “How can they apply the chart of accounts on their daily life/activities?”.

Evaluation

Directions: In your activity notebook. Give at least 5 examples of each major account (except
OE and revenue). Then create your own Chart of Account using the basic steps.
