This is a game for two players. Both

These could come from a spelling list or

How to play:

1) Player 1 should turn around and let player 2 ‘write’ one


of the words on their back using their finger.
2) Player 1 should then try to work out the word that has
been written.
• If the player correctly identifies the word, they
score one point.
• If they don’t guess the word, they score zero
points.
3) Not reverse roles, with player 1 ‘writing’ a word on the
back of player 2.

You could play until one person scores five


points, or play for a fixed amount of time
and see who scores the most points.

Extra Challenge:
• When the player guesses the word
that has been drawn, they must spell

Hook a Homophone!

This is a game for two players. You will need:

• A copy of the fishing game board.

• One set of homophone cards. Cut these out, shuffle them up and place them in a pile, face
down on the table.

• One coloured pencil (or pen) each.

How to play
1. The youngest player goes first. Their opponent should pick a card and read the word and
example sentence to the player.

2. The player should now try to find the correct version of that homophone on the game board.

• If they choose the correct spelling, they can colour that word
using their coloured pencil.

• If they choose the wrong spelling of the word, the other


player colours it using their pencil.

3. Next, swap roles so the other player can try to find the correct
spelling of the homophone on a new card.

4. Continue playing in this way, taking turns until every word is


coloured.

5. The winner is the player with the most coloured words at the
end of the game.

In the event of a tie, the winner is the first person to think of a


new homophone that is not shown on the game board.

Compound Connections
This is a game for two players. Each player will need a coloured pencil or pen. The aim is to colour a
line of four consecutive words on the grid. Lines can be made horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

1. The youngest player goes first.

2. This player should look at the grid and choose two words that can be joined together to make a
compound word (e.g. class+room = classroom or bath+tub = bathtub). They should colour these
two words using their coloured pencil or pen.

3. The other player now takes a turn and


colours two different words that can
be used to make a compound word.

4. Continue playing until one player has


coloured four words in a consecutive
horizontal, vertical or diagonal line.


In the example here, the red player has

Can you wind your way around the spooky path

You will need:

S p e l li n • Two counters and one die.

• One set of spelling splat cards.

1) Place your counters on the Start box at the spooky gates.

2) Player 1 rolls the die and moves their counter that number of
spaces along the path.

3) If a player lands on a green ‘Splat’ symbol, they should ask a


friend to read the word on a spelling splat card.

If the player can spell that word correctly, they can jump two
spaces forwards.

If they get the spelling wrong, they should stay where they are.

4) Continue taking turns to roll the die and move the counters. The
winner is the first person to reach the treasure at number 50.

What does the skeleton do?

rest of your body. The ribs are also attached to the spine and form a
protective cage around your hart and lungs.

What is the skull?

two bones and the only moveable part in the skull is the lower jaw. This
